Worst Nightmare: Never clearing his name
Backstory:
Spoiler:
Say, friend – you seen that man before? Nah, 'course not, you don’t know like old Tom does, don't keep your ear to the ground like ol' Tom. No friend, that there's Marshal Cooper, and my advice to you is get out of his way if you know what's right for ya. The rumors go that our good friend the Marshal's got a chip on his shoulder. For good reason, mind – Marshal Cooper is a hard drinker and a vengeful sonuvvabitch, but he's a law dog on the right side of the line. 'Least til you mention the name Jed Roberts.
Story goes that ol' Jed Roberts and Marshal Cooper were good friends, way back when. Now, I don't know the full tale, mind – but I do know that Marshal Cooper wasn't a Marshal 'til he served his time in the hoosegow for a crime they say he didn't commit. But that's all I'm gonna divulge about the Marshal, friend – it ain't my place to tell a man's story...

What books are good to have for this?
I assume there are more books but those will give every thing you'd need to make a character.

PS: I will rape faces if I don't get in.
Just waiting on submitted characters and I can start deciding who will comprise the four slots I'm willing to run with. Depending on submissions I might be willing to take a fifth, but pbp games larger then that tend to bog down and prove nigh unworkable in my opinion (and meager experience).
In any case, final spots will be handed out on the strength of the character and the backstory.
No bribes will be accepted.

When you say "strength of the character and the backstory", you're looking at the character stats as well as our backstory? I ordered the book, but I ordered a physical copy, so it should be here in a couple of days rather than instantly, but I'll probably work on my backstory right away (since I'm very familiar with the Deadlands universe from previous editions). Should I submit both at once or do you want to see my backstory first?
Also, Arc is right, the reloaded book is vital since it introduces quite a few changes in the rules of play and character creation.

Scratch that, I pulled a few strings and was able to borrow a book for the time being. I'm still game.
When's HOE:Reloaded commin out?
I have ambitions of running both that and The Day After Ragnarok on this board.

Background:
Kohana grew up as a proud member of the Sioux Nation; a young brave who was highly respected by those who knew him. He swore himself to protect his people and their lands, no matter the cost.
But the demands of the Wicasas to return to the Old Ways would surely damn the Sioux to extinction at the hands of the white men. So when Kohana was approached by his old friend Akecheta to join an underground movement to oppose the Old Ways, he eagerly accepted - and joined the Order of the Raven.
Some months later, Kohana was discovered as a Ravenite. Even worse he found out that it was the same friend who invited him into the Order who sold him out in order to save himself.
Rather than be put to death, Kohana managed to escape his tribe and fled out into the world of the white man. Alone and alienated, the only work he could realistically get was that of a Bounty Hunter. Tracking down and bringing to justice the undesirable elements of society.
But Kohana feels confident that one day the Order of the Raven will grow in number, and persuade the Wicasas to forsake the foolish Old Ways. On that day he will return to once again help his people.

you did NOTHING WRONG AT ALL, sir.
Sword Cane was something of a battle with Destro. I had to pick between that and a Ghost Rock powered Submarine. I chose the path less ridiculous, and it has made all the difference.
His intelligence and natural grasp of mathematical concepts allowed him to quickly excel through his studies. He entered in to Trinity College a year earlier than is typical to continue his study of maths. While studying there, he would come to meet Sir Edward Ryan, noted patron of science.
Sir Edward Ryan was visiting his alma mater and talking with many of the professors there. In the course of conversation, a mention of Matheson came up as a pretty bright individual. Always keeping an eye open for talent, Edward Ryan requested a meeting with Matheson.
Matheson's meeting with Edward Ryan was particularly exciting. Matheson was free to and encouraged to rant on about whatever ideas were floating around in his head, an opportunity that was rarely afforded to him under the strict curriculum of his studies. In particular, Matheson's recent reading focused on Algoritmi de numero Indorum, a translation of a work by a Persian astronomer and mathematician. Matheson's thoughts tended towards extending the ideas of the author, Al-Khwarizmi.
Edward Ryan's friend, Charles Babbage, was at this time tinkering with a machine known as the Analytic Engine. Edward Ryan thought that this young student would be perfect as a assistant to Charles Babbage. After their meeting, Ryan sponsored Matheson to continue his studies under Charles Babbage.
Matheson left immediately to London to Babbage's home. Under the funding and auspices of the Royal Astronomical Society, Babbage, Matheson, and a small cadre of other students worked tirelessly on the Analytic Engine. Unfortunatley, limitations of technology prevented them from completing the Analytic Engine before Charles Babbage died in 1871. The other students disbanded, but Matheson, by this time, had become thoroughly obsessed with his teacher's ideas.
Matheson continued to work for the next couple of years, but now without funding. Several times, Matheson almost found himself homeless, working without any funding or any other supplemental income. His family's money was decent, but not sufficient enough to support the expensive research that Matheson was attempting. Were it not for the kind acts of several different people, including a mysterious benefactor from the Utah Territory in the United States, his research would have been ended.
By 1877, Matheson had begun to branch into more unorthodox ideas to solve the problems of the Analytic Engine. Many of his friends and associates began to view him as going unhinged, a genius whose elusive goal was unravelling the strands of sanity. As many of his associates and friends began to distance themselves from him, Matheson became increasingly obsessive.
In 1878, Matheson determined that Ghost Rock, the miracle coal that was found in the United States, could be harnessed to fix many of the issues that still plagued the Analytic Engine design. Without warning and quite suddenly, Matheson packed his bags, and his copious research ledgers, boxed up the prototype Analytic engine and shipped it off, and headed to the United States of America to continue his research. He sold everything in his family to continue funding his research.
He finally arrived in the Utah Territories in 1879. He found a place in Ogden, Utah Territory and set up his home and lab there. It was significantly smaller and less luxurious than the domiciles he was typically used to, but more than sufficient for what he needed it to do.
TL;DR - Obsessive and unhinged student of the late Charles Babbage comes to USA in hopes that Ghost Rock can be harnessed to solve the issues in his Analytic Engine prototype.
BTW, I banged this out in the last ten minutes at work. So, I apologise for any shitty writing and/or spelling mistakes. I'll edit it when I get home.
EDIT:My limit is one game played and one hosted, I would like to see if nMage is for me.
This is ghost rock we're talking about. But for reals, it burrows.
Ghost Rock makes everything better. Got a boring ol' dildo? Spruce it up with a Smith and Robards Ghost Rock Vibration Drive and turn that boring ol' sex toy into a vibrating engine of pleasure!
i am not submitting a character
I will be starting the IC thread on Sunday afternoon at the earliest.
I'll be picking the final three people on or around that time.
Josef never understood the passions that moved most men, until his wife took ill with a rare form of tuberculosis. When the best doctors money could buy said there was nothing that could be done, he scoffed. Though medicine isn't his trade, he believes that any problem could be overcome by a proper application of mental force. His wife pleaded with him to save his time and let her pass in peace, but he refuses to give up.
Obviously, as he is not fully trained in the medical sciences, Josef has delved into alternative cures. He has had mixed results, with some of his efforts resulting in utter failure, while others have had a measure of success that could not have been achieved by ordinary medicine. While he believes he has stalled the disease, Josef feels he needs something to push it into full remission. The reports of Ghost Rock in America seem particularly promising, and as a metallurgist he has no little curiosity about the ore. With his wife suffering heavily, Josef made the decision to leave behind his business and go west in order to experiment with the properties of Ghost Rock.

Currently the player roster is ArcanistheIpotent, Cosmic Sombrero, and Shinyo. Three characters works best to start off a pbp game in my opinion. if there is still interest I may have room for a fourth later.
In any case, let's have some fun.
EDIT: Oh, almost forgot. Marshal Cooper, being a sometimes resident of this town knows a little about this Thomas character.
