We get called by our last names pretty often
as a Michael I was called by my last name so much it has become second nature to me to call everybody by their last name.

back in grade six, there was a guy I knew had a first and last name that was nearly identical to mine. Thankfully, he wasn't in my class.

and by the time I got into groups of folk who had at least 3 other Dans, there was always a nickname prefixed to our first name. I was Jebus-Dan, and the only other one I clearly recall was Loli-Dan.
if I was a Dan I would've just wanted to be everybody's friend.

    Hopefully I would be Pally-Dan.

I was in Romania doing stuff. We just finished handing out shoes to a bunch of foster kids. They'd been sitting for the last thirty minutes, pumped full of sugar, and I was just about the only remotely young person there, so I was the one that got chased and beaten with balloon swords. Most of the kids got bored pretty quick, but one four year old girl was persistent. It o happened she spoke English (her adopted mother was Canadian), so I told her she should go chase TJ for a bit. She ran off, but came right back.

I asked her why she wasn't chasing TJ. I was tired!

She pulled me down by the hem of my coat until my face was level with hers, grabbed me by my cheeks, leaned in real close, almost nose to nose and said "You're not tired, you're just lazy!"

My last name is Earl and even through college every time a teacher called roll I would hear people snickering. I never really understood it, I mean I guess I was supposed to be a hick or something.

I got a buddy whose name is William but recently decided his name was Liam. He insists everyone call him that now, I told him he was being immature and he got upset with me. Maybe its just because I've known him for so long by his actual name but I don't understand it.

Seems like I don't understand a lot of things when it comes to names.

My mom used to watch this one girl, Ashleigh. The retarded spelling of her name reflected her pretty well. At about three she couldn't talk, couldn't feed herself, couldn't understand a story or follow simple directions. What she could do, however, was stack dolls. A Barbie on bottom, a Ken on top. Always face-to-face, always naked. She'd spend five or ten minutes stacking all of the appropriate dolls in this way, then somebody'd put them away or play with them or something, and eventually she'd come back, strip them all down, stack them again. It wasn't like a compulsion or anything, more like a game. It was kinda weird.

My mom watched lots of kids, and she didn't mind behavior problems. She'd usually get them straightened out in a few weeks, the stubborn ones sometimes took a few months. As soon as they understood that the rules were the rules and she wasn't taking any bullshit, they'd play nice and eat their vegetables. Mom always said she'd never give up on a kid, but she did eventually have to send one away. His mom didn't understand why.

He molested one of the girls.

His mother did not understand why he couldn't stay there any more.
