Hey all,

I'm thinking about buying an Airport Express for my stereo. Is there a way to set up AirTunes so any of my roommates can send music to the unit from their individual laptops?

if you add it to the network as an addition, any itunes user can select them as their speaker without having the airport utilities on their computer

though if you buy airfoil you can do non itunes stuff.

its really a great piece of hardware. i use it mostly for wireless printing

Nice. I'm gonna be buying a new receiver for the setup, would this Sony model be compatible with the AE?

    Possibly.

the airport express only has a headphone jack type port and a USB slot. so assuming you can input that reciever with that jack then it should work fine

Right. From what I can tell, the Rx uses some BS proprietary Sony digital media input, but I should be able to get around that limitation with one of these bad boys.

You would just need something like this, mini stereo jack to RCA, to connect it to the receiver.

That's the first cable that showed up in google, you can probably find one at a better online store, maybe cheaper, etc. I have this exact setup, airtunes going into a receiver. It works beautifully.

    Edit: I guess I'm slow.

Haha, no worries. I've actually got one already, I used to play my turntable through my PC speakers via my MacBook's audio-in port.
