Company of Heroes and other sundry WW2 games

A Dabble Of Thelonius

So Company of Heroes had an expansion come out a bit ago. Added in some scenarios, some co-op stuff and new units that Phare assures me aren't overpowered even though I have seen the horrors they wrought upon my troops. Seen it with my eyes wide in horror.

As always, you don't need the expansions to play regular old multplayer. You just need to accept the fact that some things are going to happen that you won't be pleased with.

So, after a 2 hour 16 minute, no heavy armor brawl last night against Phare, he finally overcame me with the deployment of heavy armor. This reminded me of two things.

Point being numbered one. - Fuck it. I should've stockpiled heavy armor.

Point being numbered two. - This game is still hella fun.

So who is up for some good old fashioned playing soldiers?

DoW2? I have no idea. I didn't get it because I didn't like the demo at all. I felt like I'd played flash RTS apps with less simplistic interfaces

I don't believe the vanillia modes have any new maps, Hob.

Oh, DoW2. Ehh not so much. When I realized that the campaign was the same 8 or so maps rotated and reused I lost interest. Co-op seemed fun though.

I have a question. How was the original Dawn of War?

Steam has a package deal on Company of Heroes and DoW, plus the first expansions for each, for $50. My friend has been bugging me to get into CoH with him, but I wasn't sure if the package was worth it and I've been too lazy to search out general impressions on DoW and its expansions.

If you have friends to play it with I highly recommend it. DoW (up to the Dark Crusade pack) was really fun but it does have serious balance issues. Balance really tends to be Relic's Achilles heel.

Snag it. CoH is insanely fun times multiplayer and the singleplayer campaign is really well done as well. I prefer them to DoW, but DoW is pretty good times.
