Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
all jokes aside about unicorns and fanciful devices of the future, I am looking for a laptop that I can take to Bumblefuck Midwesternville and play some games so as not to be so completely bored or resort to payperview.
My budget is about 1K-1.2 estimated and I want it to be able to play current gen games fairly well. maybe not max settings but definitly decent. Single player games only.
Games I'm looking at:
Fallout 3
Mass Effect
etc.
as a side note, I want to get the best I can get for my budget so no telling me that I can run mass effect fine on something for 200 bucks on the lowest settings.
I have played the listed games on a Gateway P-6860 FX. I bought it on clearance at Bestbuy last November for $650. Everything runs on max settings for Fallout 3.
While this model is no longer available, Gateway has obviously continued the series. The 6860 has an 8800GTS 512mb vid card while the newer ones all sport the 9800GTS 1gb cards. I assume they are better!
These are 17" laptops that weigh a good 10lbs+. I like it because it is as powerful as a decent desktop and can be taken with me for work. My job is travel intensive.
Put some research into the gateway FX line and you should be happy. I'm sure there is something better out there, but these are good stuff and can certainly play any modern game.
I think the newest models run 1200-1300 USD retail.
The 9800M gs is the best card you can get in a 15" unless something changed recently. I have played those games on my laptop, plus Sims 3 and Bioshock, and they look great.
