hooray! my big tf2 tournament of magical magicalness!

let's go over... the basics:

format:

8v8, no class restrictions. anything goes. double elimination (with a twist.)

no crits

allow me to go over how this tournament is going to play out.

very first round in the tournament:

this round plays out in standard rules. it's an 8v8 on a specified map, with appropriate map rules applying. people who win during this stage continue on in the WINNERS BRACKET, and fight the next appropriate team. however, if you lose... please, continue on...

... loser bracket qualifier round:

the loser bracket qualifier round is specifically for the teams that lost in the first round of (note, JUST the first round) WINNERS BRACKET. this round, dubbed "the elimination bracket qualifier stage", has a unique set of rules.

each pair of teams (that are facing against eachother) choose a player to "champion" them. this champion then fights against the other teams champion, in a first to 5 kills match.

this format is 1v1, played on either an arena map, or a custom map. each player may choose the class of their preference, with the exception of engineer. no engineers allowed. i'm going to leave the scheduling of this match, as well as what map is played up to the discretion of each teams respective captain.

this match absolutely has to be played before the next match in the winner's bracket, so you have about a week to find an appropriate date. it can't be that hard to schedule a 1v1, so no complaining.

however, if you feel that your team has neither the energy nor willingness to continue playing, you may opt out of the losers bracket entirely, and forfeit the tournament.

edit to these rules: teams now have the option to opt for a regular 8v8 match, if both teams agree to it.

back to the easy stuff:

this is ez. it goes back to being a standard elimination bracket, with two brackets (the WINNERS BRACKET and the LOSERS BRACKET).

each team plays down their respective brackets, and when there's only one team left on each bracket, they pair off and play eachother for the coveted NUMBA ONE CHAMPION spot.

but mr. tinylobsta, when is all this happening?

these are the current dates for the tournament. these MAY be subject to change, given enough reason to, and if they are changed, the captains will be notified, and they will notify you.

(all dates are based around a 10 team or less tournament setup)

what maps on what rounds

this is pretty straight forward.

during round 1 in the WINNERS BRACKET, everybody will being playing gravelpit, with standard cevo rules.

this is a stopwatch game. each team defends twice, and attacks twice. at the end of the first attack/defend cycle, teams switch sides.

however, round 1 in the LOSERS BRACKET, the qualifying round, will be played on a diff map, as is specified in the rules of "loser bracket qualifier round".

round 2 will be played on ctf_turbine! whoa! no way!

a ctf map in a penny arcade tournament, what a ridonkulous proposition

yet still, we shall play it! and it will be glorious!

round 3 is gonna have to be either cp_well or cp_freight! rules on cp_well/cp_freight are first to 5 wins, time limit of 60 minutes. if the game ends via timelimit, team with the most points takes it.

and finally, the final map will be announced... at a later date! muaha!

well that's all good, but how are players chosen? huh? tell me that!

a captain system will be used for choosing players.

each captain, starting in a certain order, will choose one player. the next captain will then choose a player, and then the next will choose a player, etc, until every team captain has one player.

this process will repeat itself, until all teams are filled.

so, without further ado, allow me to introduce you to your current team captains!
