Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it,
follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given
their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

My office enforces dropbox on all the in house PCs and Macs and I've been using it for ages.
Why everyone doesn't already have it is beyond me.
Everytime I see someone post a megaupload/rapidshare link I want to beat them over their heads.
It's better than doing some silly shit there and everyone thinking you're a loser instead of a comedy genius.
Is dropbox that (just file storage) or some kind of open cvs repository for files? o_O
edit: where "files" isn't limited to code or coding project materials.
It basically makes iDisc utterly obsolete. Which is a shame because I used that for a while.
btw...you've had quite the rebelious weekend, Scarab. were you celebrating US independence by sticking it to the man? ;p
This would make organizing my creative team WAY easier. What does it cost?
Pricing.
edit: there's an option for 19.99 USD a month for 100 gb but really at that price you might as well just buy the year.
there's an in between price too, but really you can just click on that link.

I'll never forget the day I was wandering down an aisle at the Calgary Con when two dudes dressed as Jedi's met randomly at an alley intersection and, in all seriousness, had a showdown. The mass crowd of geeks cleared the way for epic nerdery.
Or the time a catwoman had her photograph taken with a ten year old and the horde of really lonely men that sneaked in behind and took ass shots. (For real, right in front of our booth. Awesome.)
Anime is even better because you get a higher furry ratio than at regular cons.
It's just so damn poetic.
"You, no less human than we? Ha! Now there's a beastly thought. You've been less than we from the moment your baseborn father fell upon your mother in whatever gutter saw you sired! You've been chattel since you came into the world drenched in common blood!"
"Humor can be dissected, as a frog can, but it dies in the process."

I just started a weight loss program, I've completely changed my eating habits (only fresh veg/fruit and lean meat.) and have been doing 40 mins of cardio 5 days a week.
Since starting, I've been writing like a machine. I finished a 110 page screenplay in 4 days of actual writing. My brain is actually working!
I highly recommend it if you're a fat bastard like me.
It's weird. I've been trying to write a book for a long time now and I have a general concept but I'm still struggling to come up with a plausible plot sequence. With the IF game I'm working on, I have a very clear concept of what I want to begin and end with, and a very good idea of how I want the plot to unfold, but I'm having trouble constructing the body, so basically the exact opposite problem.
Write down your beginning. Write down a possible end. Write down major changes to the central characters that have occured by the end. PM them to me. We'll parlay.
I can't...it's for a contest and I think collaboration is verboten. I appreciate the interest though.
edit: They actually have rules about even discussing it on a forum.
I can't seem to find it, but the last con I was at saw we had an old dude dressed as Robin take his picture with one of the lady artists in the booth next to us. He totally had a boner in his little green underwear. It was awesome.
Also, I too hate Diamond. Getting an indy book picked up by them is damn near impossible these days. Seriously people. If you're at all interested in reading this man's book, pre-order it. Otherwise it won't come out.
For Diamond to actually carry your book, you have to have a minimum number of orders. For OGNs, that number is $2500 (wholesale). So if your book has a cover price of $20, but comic shops order them for $10, then you need to have 250 pre-ordered copies of your book in order for Diamond to actually stock it.
For reference:
Zen, you're right, the process is painstaking. You'd think it would be as easy as having the publisher take you on, but the distributor has WAY more power.
Here is the process as it stands.
1) Make a pitch
2) Submit your pitch
3) Get the green light from a publisher
4) Publisher goes to Diamond with a full issue or completed product
5) Product goes before Diamond panel. If THEY like it, move to step 6. If not, fuck you.
6) Listed in previews. The waiting game.
7) Make the x amount of preorders, proceed to step 8. If not, fuck you.
8) You're published!
9) Still poor. Start at point #1 with new series idea.
Publishers can get you some interviews, but it still comes down to making phone calls and building your own hype. It's a lot of work for something that, if you're lucky, breaks even so you get to do another one.
I'm pretty lucky, Red 5 does fairly awesome promotion and for some reason they have really wicked connections.
We had a film producer interested in it the day the preview showed up on comicmonsters.com (Red 5 has optioned 5 of their titles out of 8).
Actually, I need to get some goddamn writing done so I have something to give my artist so we can get a book out next year.
Tell me more. Diet/Types of exercise?

For breakfast I blend fruits to make a smoothie. Starting this week I'll be adding protein supplement to the mix, I just haven't had the chance to pick some up. I recommend doing this before you do any workout, get your metabolism rolling.
I prefer doing my workout in the morning. I'm at the gym by 8am, I find it really gets my day started and my motivation levels are significantly higher.
For lunch or supper I only eat lean meat (Chicken Breast, Fish) with some form of vegetable, depending on the meal. Lots of fresh spinach, bell peppers. I actually snack on Snow Peas, which are awesome tasting for vegetables.
My workout right now is 40 minutes on the elliptical, I try to keep my heart rate around 150 for as long as possible. Most machines will ask your weight and age, and will give you a heart rate range that is optimal for you.
Starting next week I'll be hitting the weights. Right now I'm focused on making my heart healthy and losing weight.
Edit: I also have nearly eliminated dairy from my diet. I actually have a minor lactose intolerance, so I feel way better all around. My friend got me into this, he's lost 70 pounds since last year and is epic fit. He follows something called the paleo diet. I don't follow it exclusively, but he is proof it works with a balanced exercise routine.
For #3 hearing criticism in stereo is often pretty useful. It makes it harder for someone to just say, "well this guy's advice is way different than what I heard from my friends, so he's an idiot." I've seen it, it ain't pretty. Secondly, I rarely read others critique before I add my own in order to prevent some kind of bias. I don't think I'm alone here.
#10: We see far more incomplete works than complete. Critiquing an incomplete work can be helpful if it's a question of style, tone, or pacing, which honestly is what most people are looking for anyway. I can't remember the last time we had an in-depth discussion on a piece's storytelling merits, character motivations, themes, etc, unless it's from one of the regulars.
My concern with #10 is that good net citizens who are interested in getting some honest critique might read the rules and not get questions answered about their piece. It's not like this thread is swimming in new material lately, since most of our regulars are using back channels for their "serious" work.
Last thing, and this goes to everyone: I really like this forum and I like that I don't need to suck two cocks for every legitimate biting critique. I like that I can be a little snarky and have fun doing critiques. In other words I like this forum for being more than just a vehicle for the chat thread. Has it been a while since you've critiqued something? Go ahead, give it a whirl. It's fun, and it keeps the forum vibrant.
That last thing wasn't the last thing. Anyone have anything long they want a reader for? After Jezz's and spff's novels I really want to dive into some spankin' new fiction and work my analysis chops. PM me, please.
That is, Mk 2. The second rewrite. Which everybody ever will be recieving a copy of because if it corrupts again I will bite. The world. In the face.
