[LOTRO] 1/21 - 1/25 Free Return Weekend
Posts
Back when SoM launched I was in FS nearly constantly, because there weren't enough mobs for all the people playing.
Yeah, that attitude towards grouping kinda annoys me too. Not sure what causes it, other than the fact that people are almost never on the same quests. It amazes and amuses me whenever I group up for a fellowship quest how few other quests I have in common with people.
Regarding your difficulty with fighting higher level foes, what class are you, and how good is your gear? Are you on Landroval? If so, we can get you some top of the line crafted gear to maybe ease your way a little bit.
Here's the MyLOTRO page for Bryn. I'm sure some of my gear is not so great. The armour and leggings are ones I crafted myself. Someone in the Kin made my Bow and it's pretty good. I'd probably be better off with swords than clubs since I have the human sword bonus, but the clubs were better than the last set of swords I had.
Of course, my problems could also be down to not having played in a long time or being used to guzzling potions in Torchlight.
Also, the thread is almost at lock stage, might be a good place to get a list of the current officers in TBS so people know who to ask for invites.
My Book II Foreword quest has been removed due to "Versioning"
Now I have no epic quests except some random Prologue one. What happened?
I KISS YOU!
I felt sort of bad killing the angry sasquatch type guys.
Turbine changed quite a bit of the Epic quest, as well as Lone Lands. If you think that you finished Volume I Book 1 (I assume we talk about Volume I), try following quests listed here:
http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Quest_Arc:Book_II:_The_Red_Maid
This should help to get you back on track. Note that the Foreword quest was removed due to changes done during Lone Lands revamp.
Just Vol I Book 2. They're planning on eventually making all of Vol I soloable, but will most likely just be doing this one book per major update, so it's going to take a while.
I think you can solo all the way through Book 2. There was a dev diary, which mentioned plans to change all Volume I to be soloable. They would use skirmishes to let you choose group size for Epic quest, so it can be run by 1, 3 or 6 man groups. However, we are not going to see this feature for a long while.
Edit: It's like Simon has a link inside my head.
Maybe I'll drop 30 bucks for the three month plan.
Edit: And now it's letting me in again. Huh.
Yup that must be it, I was on the Foreward of Vol 1 Book 2. So when I go back in the game just find the Chapter 1 guy and I should be able to start it up without it having to be given to me first?
I KISS YOU!
Champ (Weaponsmith) - Armsman
Guard (Metalsmith) - Armourer
Warden (Tailor) - Explorer
LM (Jeweler) - Tinker
Cap (Farmer) - Woodsman(*)
RK (Scholar) - Historian
Hunter ( Woodworker) - Woodsman
Minstrel (Cook) - Tinker (**)
Burg (no crafting) - Explorer
(*) Farming is also available in Historian and Yeoman, but Yeoman has no collecting skills, and Historian would have no collecting skills other than low-level Scholar artifacts without levelling Scholar in two different characters. My choice = more wood
(**) Cook is also available in Yeoman, but again, no collecting skills there. Yeoman really only makes sense if you want your farmer and cook in one person. My choice = more ore/gems
And of course, more collecting means more miscellaneous crit materials for various professions.
Now, if your goal is the opposite of mine -- to cover all professions with a minimum number of characters -- you can do that with four: Armourer, Tinker, Historian, and Woodsman (Armsman could cover Woodworking in place of the Woodsman, except that you'd have no one collecting wood; Armsman could work if you add a 5th as an Explorer).

I'll prob play him more though considering 20 minutes in, not even know wtf I was doing, I finally completed my "Foe of the Night" title I apparently was working on when I last logged in.
Hah yeah, that I remember, I'm just struggling to figure out the optimal things cast/play.
Cool, thanks. And wow, I feel like an idiot, I was reading some "what hunters need to know" thread on the LOTRO forums, and realized I never knew the hunter posion cure could be used on yourself. I honestly thought it was team-mate only!
I have a dwarf champion, but I've been out of the game about a month and I'm just not feeling him anymore even though I grinded like hell on his mining/woodcutting/tailoring.

I'm currently running in the problem that I can't play other classes because I'm so used to the warden. My burg has about 2 rows of skills now and I keep clicking around trying to figure out a pattern to play by and I just can't figure it out. There's too much skills, aaah
If that's the case, stick to one character and be an Explorer. If I had to have just one, it'd probably be a Warden, Hunter or RK.
The Warden says, "I'll outlast you." The Hunter and RK say, "I'll kill you before you even touch me." (at least, that's the idea... my lvl 20 warden couldn't quite outlast the 25 sig aurochs for the tailoring quest -- no pots and ran out of power, but it was close, probably one missed attack away from victory...)

Nice. Congrats. I took your advice and am trying a RK. I really....sadly....HAVE to have the ability to heal when I play. So really my choices were limited to playing my 30 Min (sloooooow leveling), my 22 Capt (who I dont even know how to play even after looking at my bar), and working on this new RK.
I will say this, I'm not entire sure about the whole attunement thing. I'm still learning.
Shoulda rolled Warden. Insane self-heals to the max
Last night, armed with potions, I re-tried that 25 signature aurochs with my Warden (still level 20) and was victorious... without using any of the potions! I realized that I had been missing setting up some of my defensive gambits -- the night before I had focused mainly on the heals and had forgotten Safeguard, Shields Up, and the plain old double shield one. I had also missed hitting them with that armor-reducing javelin attack. I ended the fight within a couple hits of needing a potion, but the important thing was that I didn't run out of power like I had previously. Luckily, the tailoring quest item dropped on that first kill, so I didn't have to push my luck -- most of the rest of that herd were 26/27 sigs.
So now I have access to Expert Tailoring -- all kinds of items that I can't use for at least 2 more levels. I think my next push is to get Warden, Hunter and RK (the leading candidates to become my main) to 22. My LM's Jewelcrafting progress is blocked pending a quest, but he may need to put on another level or two before he can do that, so he may be #4 for now; jewelers can make some handy items -- 7 armour slots for all classes, plus champ runes, LM amulets, and RK runestones . The rest of my guys haven't gotten to their Expert crafting quests yet.
...
Regarding the attunement thing... attunement quickly returns to neutral when not in combat (just the induction time of that fire opening attack can cause you to lose whatever attack attunement you had from a just-completed fight). Depending on what level you're at, one good approach particularly for an anticipated tough fight or against multiples is to first drop that little healing totem-like thingie and then mark the target with that foretelling thing before opening with the fire blast-y thing (I really should know the names of these, but...) ... the order is important -- the totem drop will move attunement one notch to the right (healing), the mark will bring it back to the middle, opening up your lower-level attacks, which will build attunement to the left (attacks), opening up your more powerful attacks, while the HoT from the totem continues. The totem can also draw aggro, which is actually a nice thing when going against multiples.
I find it helpful to group all my heals to the right, attacks to the left, and "neutral" abilities in the middle of the bars, so that they reflect their effect on attunement. It helps that I've always tended to put attacks on the left and heals on the right in other games as well. Also, I've set all my bars to be always visible in the UI, so I don't have to hold down Ctrl, Alt or Shift to see those bars. I have lightning attacks on main bar, fire on the Ctrl bar, and frost on the Alt bar, with attunement requirements increasing as I go from left to right. This seems pretty obvious now, but I had just been stacking the ones of the same type on top of each other until recently. I think my LM needs a serious hotbar layout revision next.

And how can you not have done v2bk1 yet be high enough level to help her? o_O
I've found it more worthwhile to compare LOTRO's hunter to WoW's Mage, really.
I'm not comparing to WoW.
you're a statistical rarity young man.
I'm really OCD about doing all of the book quests in order on my first trip through the game. Tonight I should be doing the Volume 1, Book 14 finale instance.

Hunters can use that skill to set up ambushes in PvMP. They'll pick a spot next to a tree or rock, camouflage, and wait for a poor green creep to wander by.
That said, Aldo is right, it's weak. Sneaking around as a warg it's not uncommon that I'll detect a stealthed hunter before they spot me.
