I figure by the time I can make that set I'll have moved on to another tier.

Scholar is also useful for making dye (I can dress you in all the colours of the rainbow), scrolls of battle/warding lore (I can make ones that give +5% dmg or -5% incoming dmg for the whole Fellowship), hunter bowstrings and light and fire oil.
Besides the potions and crafting scrolls these are all things you will continue needing until the end of time.

IIRC in a lot of cases the Guild Armor at a previous tier is actually better than a lot of the non-Guild Armor available on the next tier.

If its the 60 instances, its better (the radiance gear or the purple token gear drops) other stuff is hit or miss.
Yeah for dual wielders the crit teal weapons are great off hands for a legendary main (or shield users same deal). Cloaks can be better than what you get from quests though there are some nice freaking quest items.
Also the teal upper jewelery is great until you can get some massive upgrades. Turbine made sure to have "entry" level stuff easier to get so you can run instances without feeling gimped. For the most part gear isn't as important as player skill. It helps but lack of skill will kill you a lot faster than not having purples/teal.
I don't doubt. When I hit 20 I crafted all the one use recipe heavy armors for my self, and the only piece I've found a quest replacement for was my chest piece, which is just slightly better than the one I crafted. So I'm level 29 using level 20 armor because of how badass it is.
This isn't as true as it was prior to the releveling of crafted items in the last patch. It used to be that Guild armor was the best upgrade for Guild armor. Now, since the Guild items have had their levels bumped up (27 became 31, 35 became 41, etc.), it will often turn out that a critted item of the next level up will be somewhat of an improvement. e.g. higher armor value, but worse +stats. Even more so with weapons, since in many cases (especially when leveling) DPS is what most people care about, with +stats being a nice bonus.
Do any of you bother with Jeweler's Guild? The only worthwhile recipes seem to be the Sublime Dawn-Rose set. I've got an alt making steady progress through the rep grind, but I'm wondering if it'll be worth the bother.
Also I swear they added tiers of crafted gear because I don't remember a 38 weapon tier (I remember because when I leveled my guard it sucked waiting till the 40 upgrade from the 25.
It used to be that there were two levels per tier, basically amounting to the recipes you received when you opened the tier, and the recipes available from that craft's vendor. Recipe drops were either sidegrades of the lower level recipes (e.g. "heavy" versions that often didn't have different stats), or one-shot versions of the purchased recipes, with Guild recipes being guaranteed crits of the one-shots.
Now, there are four levels per tier. The recipes granted upon access to the tier are the lowest, followed by the purchased recipes, followed by the normal recipe drops, followed by the one-shots (with Guild recipes still being guaranteed crits of the one-shots).
Also, the crit item change is mostly for the better, except I have issues with Flax fibers. Previously, a tailor's "resource node" was a hide-bearing creature. Often, tailor's crit items were drops from these same creatures, e.g. warg tails. Now, there's either a minuscule chance of one dropping from a humanoid, or a supposedly* slightly less minuscule chance of one dropping from a wood node, neither of which have much relevance tailors. While this doesn't seem to have severely impacted the AH yet (except to make flax the most expensive crit items by far), there's a good chance that it will lead to further depression of wood prices as tailors gather vast quantities of wood, in the hopes of finding flax, and dump the raw materials on the AH.
*Anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that there's something wrong with the drop rates of flax. I don't have enough data to run a meaningful statistical analysis yet, but my own observations run something like one fiber per 70 logs, or about 1 in 30 nodes, versus resin drops of 1 in 10 nodes. Again, small data sets, margin of errors are still large, and I'm wary of using anyone's reported numbers on the fora, because there's a selection problem there. Still, something to watch.
Oh I got that, I'm not complaning about what they are, I'm complaining about the brief flutter of excitement I get that far outshines any excitement from a blue in wow, then me correcting myself with, it's just a rare calm down. Also purple drops of any thing occur more than blues in wow, say rock salt or something. All elicit the holy shit response.
For the first two hours of the game I was excited about intestines.

My captain's still sitting at 44, so I might get them both to 50 before continuing through Moria....decisions. Good to see the guild active again though.

I found Eregion to be a bit of a whore, as it were. That meaning, I was completely fucking bogged down with fellowship quests for which I could not find a group no matter how long I tried. I ended up skipping at least 50% of Eregion because of this.
Free MMO Überlist
Yeah honestly, maybe you're thinking of some place else? Eregion doesn't have really any group, and even the ones in the southwest are small fellowship and the forest trolls can be completed the same.
I understand that these sort of quests will get harder, but are they generally doable by a tank/heals (Warden, RK) duo or do the higher level ones actually require a full group?

Actual instances need 6 people if you are of level.
Yep. This was my favorite zone. A lot of the deeds are also fairly easy to get with the general questing since the quests seem to never end. The troll cave is pretty damn hard though. I would recommend getting a 60 to come along and help. I tried it with a captain + rk duo when we were at the correct level and we got slaughtered.
Bitches.
Edit: I got my own name wrong.

Grats 2868!
Well it depends, you can just outlevel them and then wittle them down, especially with a tank and healer class. My wife and I did that on our tank ministrel before we gave them up. Some are just too hard though because they overwhelm you. Especially escorts.
I really really like the game, it's the only MMO I've ever stuck with past a couple days, but I have so little time to play it. I'm gonna start taking my laptop to work though, I've got like 2 hours a day now where I do nothing since my schedule changed, and Imma get me some gaming on.

Can anyone else help me out here -- what UI is this?
I've reactivated my account three or four times since launch, playing a month or so at a time, and my sole character is like level 32. If you're a casual player progression in LOTRO will be extremely slow - this game favors the power gamer IMO.

Spent a bit of time searching for it, as I want to use that skin too. It's very clean, and the gambit interface is skinned, unlike some UIs.

Supposedly it'll be fixed today, but I'm less than confidant.
