I played through Earthbound twice. The second time because I never could beat the boss. I started over and got all my characters to max level with 50 Horn of Life in all their inventories. Still couldn't beat him. I just wrote it off as the hardest boss fight ever.

I didn't find out about the praying thing till several years later. Whoops.
