Computer won't boot from CD

I was trying to boot a Linux LiveCD, and it didn't work. I have already taken the following troubleshooting steps, and tried again after each one.

I checked the optical drive had priority in the boot sequence.

I disabled Quick POST.

I tried the other optical drive I have installed (after setting it to first in the boot sequence)

I disabled booting from all devices except the optical drive.

I checked the LiveCD works in another machine, and I'm able to read it on this machine from within Windows. It also won't boot with any other bootable CD I have (mostly OS install discs).

The fucker still won't boot from CD. With booting restricted to the DVD drive only, I get the "Please insert system disc and press enter" error message. If I hit enter the drive doesn't even spin up, so I don't think it's actually reading it.

What am I missing here?

It's certainly possible that, while the disc works on another system, your optical drive just doesn't want to read it. Some CD-Rs/RWs are just wonky with certain drives like that.

Other than that I'm at a bit of a loss. Try burning it again.

Just to make sure, I have to ask this stupid question. Did your burn the .iso file with the burning program's "burn image to disk", or did you just add the .iso file to the disk and burn it?

I know the disc is burned correctly, since I can get another computer to boot from it.

I also know that the both the optical drives in this machine will read it, because if I boot into Windows (from the hard drive) I can put the disc in and access the contents.

This problem is not restricted to the LiveCD. I can't make the machine boot from any bootable CD (or DVD, for that matter).
