So yeah, I have this one refrain from a song stuck in my head, but I dont know the song name, or the artist, and I'm starting to doubt if I even know the correct lyrics.

This exact same thing happened with me regarding "Down" by 311, and it took me a year to catch it on the radio again.

Anyways, the song itself seems reminiscent of Scarborough Fair by Simon & Garfunkle.. but much darker.

And the refrain thats stuck in my head has the lyrics about dark spots / black spots / black holes on the sun....

Hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about and I'm not just imagining songs.

Is obviously the first thing that came to mind based on your description.

Yeah, that I would have recognized immediately.. the one I'm thinking of has a stronger guitar overlay, and is accoustic.

Trust me, its not Black Hole Sun.

The main refrain is close, talking about black something ON the sun.

What about a cover of Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden?

Yep, just double checked both the Dave Copland and Incubus covers of the Black Hole Sun song, and its definately not them. Even checked Paul Anka and Peter Frampton... de nada.

Every single cover keeps the same rythm pattern and the lyrics are identical or close to, and the one I'm thinking of is very different.

Could it be either Under a Billion Suns or Blindspots both by Mudhoney?

There's some band called Dead Can Dance with a song called Black Sun on Youtube. I wouldn't say their original version sounds much like Simon & Garfunkle, but there is an acoustic cover by some Swedish dude or something that sounds somewhat similar. But his vocals are terrible and the original is like death techno or something. It's all pretty horrible and I hope it's not the answer.

Usually what I do is perform a search in google:

Simply put ("enter the lyrics here" lyrics) without the brackets for your search criteria.

I was thinking King of Pain, as well.

I think I remember where I heard it, its the song at the end of an episode of Season 2 The Unit, where Mac and Crystal (Summer Glau) sleep together.
