Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
Heroes of Newerth (HoN) - ITT we stop buying the Runed Axe already!
Heroes of Newerth or HoN is a team-based strategic multiplayer game where you assume the role of a hero on the Legionnaire or Hellbourne alliance. The game is currently in closed-beta and is largely based on the popular Warcraft III custom map Defense of the Ancients, making several improvements in match making, graphics, hosting, and support.
The game runs on Windows, MAC OSX, and Linux.
IMPORTANT: For those of you in the beta, feel free to TALK in this thread, but kindly post no screenshots or link to videos. Savage has asked that we refrain from such activities at this time, and it's in our interests to comply and not get several of us kicked from the Beta.

Spoiler:
If you would like an invitation to the beta, post in the thread or private message a poster who claims to have keys. When you message them, please provide your email address as it is necessary to register you for the beta.
It'd be nice if people only request from ONE person at a time. If they get sent, they are used up even if you already got a key. If you do get a second key, please let people in the thread know so they can get it from you.
I wouldn't worry about being awful. We're all generally pretty bad 'round these parts. And besides, the vast majority of us are playing simply for the fun factor, so nobody's gonna shit on your head for not knowing what's going on.
The HoN players aren't any less elitist than the DotA players. Only difference is there's a slightly better matchmaking criteria (e.g. "newbs only" games that only allow new players in, doesn't top the good players from getting in, though), and a lot more people just trying to figure out what's going on.
Also, built in voice chat means you can be called names in a dozen languages, and with such colourful accents. Good times.
thanks for the key dracil. I'll make my account in a few hours when i'm home from work.
@page- you know, if i could get some people from new zealand in there bitching me out about how suck i am, i wouldn't care, because i'd be laughing so hard the tears would prevent me from even playing
/played WoW with a group from NZ, it was freakin hilarious to listen to their conversations.

I gotta say, this is exactly how I would describe my experience in playing DOTA. bravo sir... i've been chortling to myself for the last 10 minutes thinking about it.
Oh jees I idled for a second and the game autoboots you actually, my bad. I was staring at items for part of it. You neglect how much of being good at Dota is just being familar with all the heroes, abilities, and items.
I did think it was funny that some of the heroes are so similar that people actually refer to them as the names of their dota counterparts. I guess its a matter of matching up who is who in the new visual style. The interface seems strong at a first glance, albeit a bit confusing.

Thanks guys!
I haven't actually tried the beta yet either.
I guess if we can get a bunch of PAers it'll give me a good reason to try it out.
So first 13 to PM me.
Protip, putting your email in this thread is just asking to get spammed by bots.

I haven't played DotA ever! I've only watched it.
So you're better off than I am.
PM if you need a key. One per costumer and you can't be a lurker/new account.
EDIT: 4 keys remaining.
EDIT: 2 keys remaining.
I never asked for this!
S2 gave everyone in the beta 3 keys today it looks like, so many of us have keys available.
I never asked for this!

would be fun to give this a try. I plan on playing League of Legends when it comes out as well.

I'm glad there is some form of match making.
I love how earthshacker got replaced by Behemoth, which was the siege unit of the beasts in Savage 1. I just noticed that now.

I never got WC3 so I missed out on DoTA, but it always looked interesting. Plus I always was a fan of the savage series.
e:got one!
