Printing to PDF

I am currently studying some accounting what not on my way to a professional designation. However most of my notes (CICA Handbook) is in some weird digital format that is difficult to take to work for me. Essentially requiring some weird arse program that isnt allowed on work computers..for some reason.

My question is, how do you set up a computer to print to PDF format. I have seen it before, but I am under the impression that most of these programs require payment..which I have little cash. I am sure there is a cheaper solution.

SomethingAwful's useful software page lists PDFCreator, and I've used PrimoPDF before without any major complaints.

Pretty much just adding this for completeness...

But I've always used CutePDF and GhostScript (which you can also grab from the CutePDF site, though it's an older version).
