Microsoft messenger forces me to be french

Hello! I'm on mac 10.5.7 and I have uninstalled messenger 7 completely from my computer, with the preference too. My old messenger version was in french, and I wanted to have the english one instead. For some reason, it still install the french version, even if I clicked the "messenger (english)" from microsoft website. Is there a way to tell msn I don't want the french version anymore? if not, what are the alternative for mac?

    adium. runs aim, yahoo, msn, icq, google talk, irc, and a bunch of other services. made by the same people that made gaim & pidgin (i think).

    Adium, no question. Pidgin is great for Windows/Linux, but Adium's interface blows it away on the Mac.
