Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
Don't know if this is the proper area, but whatever.
I got my new CPU in today, an Intel Celeron E1500 2.2GHz. I thought it wasn't right when I put it on, shoving the little plastic pins that go through the mobo. There was a little wiggle room after I pressed the pins (and after several attempts at it) between the heat sink and the CPU (aka NO CONTACT).
I need to get it properly seated so I can use my computer! Any ideas on what I can do? I can't seem to find any way to get the crappy plastic out of the fan holes in order to reuse the spring screws from my previous fan.
My computer basically runs for a few minutes, then just turns off, which I assume is from the ZERO heat reduction.
I need help.
Edit: Should I just reuse my previous fan and heatsink? The old sink is big and square, the new one is a slimmer circular style (perhaps not contacting properly due to the slimmer profile vs the previous sink).
[trolling] Why in the name of god would you waste your money on a Celeron? It's just a really shitty under-sec'd core2. [/trolling]
Give me a call and I will walk you though it. Basically you need to see the little black push rods on the bottom. I am in the same area code as we both live.
Is this area code thing a secret message, guy?
And I bought it for cheaps to basically double my current PoS celeron single core. Plus I may end up using a lot of my old parts to build a new computer for my brother- and sister-in-law, so maybe I'll just get something actual nice then.
Should I bother with the plastic craps, or will just reusing my old fan/sink do fine? I don't want the old ones to be underpowered and overheat me mid-game...
