Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
Last year VThornheart organized a lunch for Sacramento area folks headed to PAX. It was great to meet semi-local gamers, share PAX stories, and talk about what we were looking forward to.
Since VT isn't around to organize a lunch this year, I figured I'd do it. And since there are others in Northern California heading to PAX (according to the community map), I figured they might want a thread in which to organize events as well. So if you're in Northern California and want to get together with some fellow PAXers, this thread is for you.
EVENTS (details below)
Sat. Aug. 29th
- The Miles O'Brien "get-to-know-you buffet" @ Round Table in West Sac
DETAILS
The Miles O'Brien "get-to-know-you buffet" Description: Meet people going to PAX. Catch up with old PAX friends. Geek out. Eat. Date & Time: Saturday, August 29th @ 1PM Location: Round Table Pizza - 1001 Jefferson Blvd, West Sacramento, CA 95691 Cost: You eat it; you bought it. Attendees:
Ah. The latter. I figured more people might be able to make it if it wasn't a work day. I'll be missing part of a LAN party to attend, such is my devotion.
Oh, hrm. I'm going to SF that weekend to dance my feet silly and meet another PAXer or two. All I know so far is I'm going to Friday Night Blues, and Lindy in the Park on Sunday. They have free beginner swing lessons at the Park, so it should be friendly to anyone interested. I will wear my "Chicks dig UNIX" shirt to be more conspicuous.
Otherwise, I would have been up for meeting in Sac. SF can be a bit of a trip sometimes. I'll be on the WCTT though.
I think that is the point. PAXians of Northern California can set up Pre-Pre-PAX events here.
Bay Area. Inlands. Hells, even the Tahoe area can set-up meetings.
I meant specifically the event up in the OP, which is very specific on day and time, but with a 48 county range for location . But that one if it's bay area, or about anything else in the same, I'd be up for.
So where is this planned for. I am in the Roseville area, and would like to meet up before PAX, as I will probably be too busy there to meet up with a lot of people at PAX.
I live in Chico, CA and I have three friends who will come with me (they are also going to PAX). I'm definitely interested in going. I'll know if I can go for sure by this Saturday when I get my work schedule.

As a reminder, the tentative date of the meet-up is SATURDAY, AUGUST 29TH!
Blain and I have been trying to figure out a middle city between Sacramento and San Francisco area.
Three cities are in the middle between these two big cities.
Vacaville
Fairfield
Vallejo
We are currently looking into areas of interest--food wise. Whichever city is easier (all three of them DO have I-80 go through them) to get to will be the choice of city.
Any suggestions of ethnic food (we will make sure that the place will be vegetarian-friendly just in cases for those who are) will be awesome.

CaptainTapole has the right of it. I didn't feel right starting a thread for one event. That's how it's turning out, so maybe I won't make one next year.
Sounds really cool! I'm in Palo Alto... Sacramento might be kind of far. Would definitely do something closer to "Bay Area", and bring along hubby and some PAXer friends if I can get them to go =]
I just did a bar crawl on Tuesday in the city so I know some bars we can hit up but they weren't too big so we'd need to keep it small. It was all around the 16th st and Mission BART station.
edit: So I'm thinking I want to organize this, do people think I should start a new thread or what? Saturday Aug 29th Bar Crawl in SF. Starting around the 16th St and Mission BART station and then going from there. Wondering what kind of interest we can gather and if it is enough to just do it adhoc off the hip or organized and shit.
I added a tentative listing to the OP. Feel free to change the name and I can delete it entirely if you'd rather go ad hoc. I was just amusing myself with a Deep Space 9 theme. I think it's from listening to Marc Alaimo (Gul Dukat) in Call of Juarez recently.

We are in Chico as well, and also a group of 4! 2 of us will be down in Sacramento on the 28th and 29th, so I will watch so see where the meetup is! Maybe we will be able to make the lunch, but not the bar crawl as I have to pick someone up from the airport at 9pm!
Round Table Pizza - 1001 Jefferson Blvd, West Sacramento, CA 95691
As a chain restaurant, it's a reasonably known quantity. It's veggie friendly. They usually have tables you can push together if the group gets big. It's pretty close to all the major freeway intersections so people from wherever can come. And pizza's a pretty classic nerd food. I look forward to getting overly excited about PAX with everyone who can make it. (PAX, PAX, PAX!)
I will also be bringing my buttons (Blaster Master themed again. Two designs to choose from.) for those who wish to get a jump on the button trade.
Hey sorry for the delay in response. I've had a busy weekend. I should be going to the West Sacramento meet up with at least 1 other person, maybe 3. See you guys there!
alright, see you guys for pizza, and if my buttons are in then I will bring them, but I pushed the ordering envelope. It will be me and one other person! See ya then!

Hooray! It'll be Pizza Day! Yum!
I'll be dragging The Boyfriend with me--unless he is obnoxiously sick (which is normal to happen before vacations.)
I shall be bringing my buttons as well! I will bring a handful of Frightfully English's (he only did 150!), too, since I am the caretaker of all things over here on this side of the pond.

Wait!! I take it back!
I will definitely go!
May have to drag Patrick, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind.
Or if he does mind, then he can go fly a kite.

And that's not me trying to be clever. I just don't have anything to add at this time.

Also Gilles and Yams will be in SF.
And I'm already in SF, so, there you go!
The REAL point to this thread is that you can set-up locations for meet-ups for folks IN YOUR AREA.
The reason why Blain and I suggested a middle-city 'cause we weren't too sure how many folks were gonna join/if anyone had time to join.
If the Bay Area folks want to have a get-together in the Bay Area, then coolness.
If the Sacramento area folks want to have a get-together in the Sacramento area, then coolness.
If the Inland folks want to have a get-together inland, then coolness.
If the Sierra, Shasta, San Jose, Mill Valley, Napa, Tahoe, etc want to have a get-together in their resepctive places, then coolness.
I think Blain was just opening this thread up so folks CAN inform other folks of the local area.

Word. Running out of time though...

So far we've got:
Blain (Roseville)
CaptainTapole (Suisun City)
Kadre (Roseville)
MojoDC (Bay Area)
If we've got the Chico people, Sacramento, otherwise, Fairfield.
Mental Cookie for you! ...Pronounce it correctly and get a real cookie!

And as a fellow (?) midwesterner, I'd say Wapakeneta, Mackinac and Sault Ste Marie were always fun for a tourist check.
..... thats where I'm from
