I thought it was pretty much widely accepted that Cloverfield was awful

Why would they make a sequel. Why would they be allowed to do this.

I don't think it's widely accepted at all

    I enjoyed it

It's also not like they're holding a gun to your head and forcing you to watch it, OH WHY ARE THEY ALLOWED TO DO THIS

But we'll see? In this day and age, anything can be marketing. Making your own protests against your own game is 'marketing'.

Yes, I know. But that was a 'oh, there's a protest for our movie! lets infiltrate!'

Not "Oh, we need promotion! I know, lets make a fake protest!"

look at all those bad robot links plastered all over that page!

you mean the site that has a link back to 1-18-08.com who is registered to paramount and was only found after characters in JJ abrams universe were sporting slusho products (including the trailer for cloverfield)?

There is always a way to link it back

But it DOES link back! I mean, didn't you see the streetsign that said CLOVERFIELD PL on it? OMG!

That being said, I'd still watch a sequel.

you know what is a great film that I had not seen until recently?

    donnie darko

I have no desire to see the straight to home video sequel however, as I don't want this one tainted for me.

As much as I really liked Cloverfield

I will admit that the South Park parody of it was damn accurate to what 80% of the audience actually experiences.

it's not that cloverfield was or wasn't awful, it's just that there's nothing of interest to put into a sequel

i mean what could they really do that wouldn't just be the same formula repeated

they can't really reveal the monster again, they killed the main characters and you know any new characters aren't worth getting attached to,

The only thing they could really go into is some sort of tom-clancy esque government response which, like blair witch project 2, is just a terrible idea. I mean, I don't really care about the origin of the monster, or it's implications on the human condition, or whether or not a monster can feel love.

it was actually fully created by the person who made the movie.

which is a very cool thing to do.

However, some parts come so far out of left field I think the film is best left to your own interpretation.

That is pretty cool to do, to go into that much depth for the film, but yeah - sounds like it'd confuse the way it's viewed though it's pretty left field as you say.

The thing is that if that was answered you couldn't possibly be happy with the result. At the end of that path is always crap. That's why nothing ever gets answered on lost, or why we were better off not knowing that Jedi were people with special basketball genes that made them white guys who could jump, or why watching the final of BSG makes you wish they had never attempted any sort of connection to the real world.
