starcraft 2 is going to be another microfest isnt it
No, Starcraft II is going to be the best thing that has ever happened to gaming.
There is potential there but Blizzard does not have a good track record for RTS games.
It'll be worth a buy for the artwork and music alone. But if WC3 / Starcraft are any indication the gameplay will pall rather quickly.
The reason I say that it will be the best thing that has ever happened to gaming is because of this (keep watching past the first one, it gets better): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joNPrnY4K_4
Eddy: Based on the videos I've seen it looks even more micro intensive than the original Star Craft.
Yeah thats why I could never play an rts.
No, that's why you (and many others) don't like Blizzard style real-time-tactics games (they do not deserve the Strategy label).
But the genre is not entirely barren. There are excellent RTS games to be had. TA / SupCom of course. But also Rise of Nations, Cossacks / Cossacks 2, even Homeworld and the Total War series.
It's just...you know, up until WoW blizzards entire track record pretty much was RTS games, and Diablo. I mean Warcraft 2 and Starcraft are an amazing track record in the eyes of the world. I mean, Starcraft is basically THE RTS for many people.
I mean, personal opinion and all that, but that doesn't change what blizzard's track record is.
Edit: Riemann, as much as I love the total war games they are pieces of ass with terrible AI and game balance and need to be user modded to hell and back to be good games.

O_o

Starcraft you can debate. Certainly it is an interesting tactics / micro heavy game. Not much on strategy and way behind TA which came out months earlier but still.
But look at what they've done in the last decade: Warcraft 3.

Yeah I dunno.
I'm pretty sure Starcraft being played constantly for ELEVEN FUCKING YEARS is a pretty good sign the game is 'good' but then again Britney Spears has had an eleven year career.
I dunno, I'm wait and see on SC2 because I don't like the idea of being stuck playing the human side or whatever side comes out first.
I enjoyed Warcraft 3, but it wasn't a great game. I may also have been influenced by being a huge WoW nerd so I was all "neat, I recognize these dudes".
A fundamental flaw - one among many but perfectly showing the problems in the design - in Warcraft 3 was the limit on the number of units that can be selected at once.
It is not a strategy game. Despite the excellent artwork (which, itself, is good despite the primitive engine) the gameplay is shallow and focussed on controlling your hero and a handful of units.

Massachusetts set the special election for January 19th. Which means in all likelihood it will either be a temporary appointment to the seat or risk the healthcare bill being filibustered to death. Because odds are the Senate won't be able to hold out that long to wait for the seat to get filled.

I have a new soccer blog The Minnow Tank. Reading it psychically kicks Sepp Blatter in the bean bag.
Ugh. A motor on our Koenig roll divider stopped working this morning. It turns a brush that removes excess flour and dough from the main divider wheel, basically a big round block of plastic with roll-sized cutouts in it.
All the motor that died does is turn that little brush about once a second. Nothing else.
There are rhetorical tricks that can break that cycle
Prove it.
Can't. I'm invested in my xwalk discussions. Buuut... one trick is to have a meta discussion on what exactly the dishonest party is doing and ignore all attempts to change the subject back to the "cite?/I did cite!" discussion. Make it personal and then the discussion purely revolves around shit that's in the thread. The problem is that there's always someone who's going to take the bait for the original discussion and the dishonest party can go back to being a lying worm and ignore the metadebate.
I like the total war games, Rome was really fun. If only because I got caught by a numerically superior force, but I had the high ground and much like Joshua Chamberlin I made those bastards pay for trying to take the high ground!

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

It costs $2400.
so hero units make the game bad.
okay then.
And RTS is usually about commanding an army, not an uber unit and some throwaway support units.
That's a tactics game.
Kohan was fun.
Well even WC2 had hero units.
But not like WC3's hero units.
