Bomberman 64
This is one of my favorites. A song about Bomberman in the tune of the Spider-Man theme.

This commercial for some bootleg system is all kinds of WTF.

Why the hell did Nintendo stop doing amazing Zelda commercials? Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask have fucking awesome ads, and Windwaker had one good one. Everything for Twilight Princess is "ooo look at me swinging my Wiimote around."
The Lost Planet ads were not in-engine, and they were nothing like the game. I was disappointed that there was no giant battle scene at the end of the game.

It's awesome though.
Gotta love that with all the shit going on, Freddy Kruger and a Nazi stormtrooper with a really disturbing expression on his face, the kids don't scream until they see the fucking ninja.

Is it the Ratchet and Clank commercials that have real people using those crazy weapons? Those are really well done and highly entertaining. My favorite set of ads, by far.
I'm so glad that they brought those back for the PSP.
My favorite so far has been the 360 banned one. I had heard also that it was never actually banned because it was never submitted for reveiw and the whole 'banned' thing was just viral marketing. Either way, it is a great ad.
Another ad I saw in the US was the Super Mario Bros. Deluxe ad, with the couple pulling into the Drive-Thru to find the speaker is shouting Mario-related abuse at them, and it turns out that the guy at the window is playing his Game Boy Color? Hilarity! Or, more accurately, not. But still. Vivid, y'know?

That was awesome.
One ad I liked back when wrestling was big was a WWF/Majora's Mask contest, which had the Hardy Boyz in the ad, giving the "he's got 72 hours to save the world" bit as everyone in the arena was watching the game on the big TitanTron screen.
I loved the animated Mario Kart commercials; I seem to remember some animation in a tie-in contest with Domino's Pizza, and a friend of mine thinking they were making a Mario Kart-oon (if only the other Mario toons had animation that good).
Super Mario World had some good ads for the time... and the first use of "next generation?"
I don't think our Metroid II commercial was as good as Japan's, which had a bitchin' blend of comic book-style art and stop-motion stuff.
And while I dig their Super Metroid ad, I think ours better served what Nintendo needed to fight back at SEGA at the time. (funny that all the actors look American)
I see this, and simultaneously admire the animation and curse Yuji Naka's bullheaded insistence that Sonic run on foot if he's to be in Mario Kart Double Dash.
Part of what made Super Mario Land 2's so great was that my parents wouldn't let me have a Game Boy as a child.
Wario's characterization was good, too.
Who DIDN'T get excited by Donkey Kong Country's ads when Nintendo turned up their butt-kicking on SEGA?
Not so much because I wanted SEGA getting clobbered, but because Nintendo was finally fighting back.
The Lost Planet ads were not in-engine, and they were nothing like the game. I was disappointed that there was no giant battle scene at the end of the game.
YES! I love the Ace Combat Zero trailer. It got me into the series.
Holy, fucking shit. I'm buying that game tomorrow.
As awesome as that trailer is, AC4 and 5 are better games, and quite a bit longer. ACZero is literally 2 to 2 and a half hours long. 4 can be had for less than $10 US and is much better, and much more intense.
Still, I would recommend all of them if you can get them cheap enough.
I don't know if it was mentioned but I remember a dreamcast commercial with all the popular characters in some building, I think it was a DMV, and the black guy from Ready to Rumble Boxing saying, "Man, he took a bite out of my fro!"
Zimmydoom, Zimmydoom
Flew away in a balloon
Had sex with polar bears
While sitting in a reclining chair
Now there are Zim-Bear hybrids
Running around and clawing eyelids
Watch out, a Zim-Bear is about to have sex with yooooooou!

I'm getting really sick of the Crackdown commercials they play a thousand times an hour.

Needs more Metal Gear Solid (either the original Japanese comericals or the Japanese inspired MGS2 on xbox one)
Basicly a couple of guys (or just one guy) use all of Snake's tricks to avoid the boss and sneak out of work.
And what the hell? This is NOT on youtube?
Sorry, best I could do was a download off GameTrailers.com
It's at the bottom of the page, and it's the US version.
EDIT: You know what? Screw this... Gimme a sec and I'll put it up myself.
EDIT2: So IIRC the japanese commerical was the guy trying to leave work, while the american version he's trying to deliever a late report. linky
Wish I coulda found the original...

yay. ff7 commercials. i was really happy when i saw those. only other time i cared so much was probably metal gear solid commercials.
i dunno, it always felt cheap to me for mad world by gary jules to be used, after donnie darko. just seems too easy
I agree, Mad World ups the awesome meter on any commercial by a thousand percent. It's haxing peoples minds. Mind you, that does make it a good ad. Just not a very arty one. Don't have to be arty to be good. I think that's what the op is saying.

(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.
My favorite of all time though is the Ocarina of Time commercial, I knew nothing about Zelda before, but that commercial made me buy the game (well, I first rented it and then inmediatly bought it).
They're a little cheesy by today's standards, but then most of the television ads from ten years back are probably cheesy by now.
Watching these made me think of the Legend of Dragoon commercial that starts off exactly the same way - epic RPG! Flying dragon fighting scenes! FMVs! And then the 'actor' gets his head cut off and starts bitching about it to the director.
God, if only the actual *game* had bothered to satirize the whole FFVII mega-RPG thing like that instead of simply trying to emulate every last element of it. It probably would have been a much better game.
Also, very late, but I can't believe I've never seen that PS3 baby ad before. That was just a massive '...what?' Is the baby crying because all it sees on the PS3 are war sims, and war is bad?

Man, I forgot about the British Metroid Fusion ads. They had some sort of crazy horrible 3D render of Samus without her suit. I'll see if I can dig it up.

In the UK, it takes a ridiculously small number of complaints by a member of the public to the advertising board (which I forget the name of, now) to get an advert pulled from the airwaves. It was broadcast, I remember seeing it, but only for about a week.

Oh hells yes. That one brings back some memories.

This is very, very arguable, but I recommend playing Ace Combat 5 first.
But yes, I watch the other version of that trailer like every day (the one straight out of the game.)
"FIRE AWAY, COWARD!"
"COME OOOOOOOON!"
Agreed.
Ace Combat 4 > Ace Combat 5 > Ace Combat Zero
That said, AC4 is kind of short, so I've found more replay value in AC5.
Anyway.
The Gears one's not bad.
The ONLY PS3 ad I've liked so far, remotely, is the one where the backside of that room gets blasted out and they take you onto the battlefield.
But really, the older, the better.
I dig it.
I prefer the "bang" one.
I'm so glad that they brought those back for the PSP.
Hot Mario Bros. are awesome.
And still better than Sony's viral efforts.
I like the driver's ed one, myself.
That was awesome.

Oh Dreamcast, we hardly knew ye.
And to close, the best Mega Man commercial ever.
Mind, that's specifically referring to Mega Man, not Rockman.

Nintendo usually has the best commercials.
The Super Mario Bros. 2 commercial still gets me a little excited to this day.
Like a lifetime ago. What was the last Crash title worth playing, anyway?
I also liked the "this is what I do" type commercial as well.
I should really play that game sometime. Damn non-GameCube releases...
