AR, MA, MD, NC, PA, SC, TN and TX all have language in their state constitutions or other state documents that establish that in order to be elected to public office a person needs to take oath of office and swear to God, though I suppose non-theists who don't give a shit about that could still hold office. But I suppose these states just believe that Buddhists, Atheists, Agnostics, Unitarian Universalists, New Agers and people from the Church of Satan are all second-class citizens.
Arkansas Constitution, Article 19 Section 1 of the 1874 constitution:
"No person who denies the being of a God shall hold any office in the civil departments of this State, nor be competent to testify as a witness in any court."

    North Carolina's Constitution, Article 6 Sec. 8:
"Disqualifications of office. The following persons shall be disqualified for office: First, any person who shall deny the being of Almighty God...."

Pennsylvania a Declaration of Rights: Article 1, Section 4:
"No person who acknowledges the being of a God and a future state of rewards and punishments shall, on account of his religious sentiments, be disqualified to hold any office or place of trust or profit under this Commonwealth."

    South Carolina's Constitution, Article 4 Section 2:
"Person denying existence of Supreme Being not to hold office. No person who denies the existence of the Supreme Being shall hold any office under this Constitution."

Tennessee's Bill of Rights: Article 9: Section 4: "That no political or religious test, other than an oath to support the Constitution of the United States and of this state, shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under this state."
Section 2. "No person who denies the being of God, or a future state of rewards and punishments, shall hold any office in the civil department of this state."

Texas' Bill of Rights Section 4:
"RELIGIOUS TESTS: No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office, or public trust, in this State; nor shall any one be excluded from holding office on account of his religious sentiments, provided he acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being."

    etc.

is the young religious americans thread the worst we've ever had?

There are a number of interesting topics skirting round the edges of that thread. But yeah not worth posting in.

I have been somewhat interested lately in how very Gnostic a lot of modern American Christians are. Especially those churces that grew out of the revival movements of the early 20th century.

A lot of the most hard core Christians today if you plunked them down in the 2nd or 3d century would have way, way more to do with the various sects labeled "Gnostics" (and heavily persecuted as such by other Christians) than not.

    I just finished installing Wesnoth.

Did you just want to hop right into multiplayer or did you want to get some SP experience under your belt? I haven't played the game in a year or so, myself.

athiests are still the most hated (or I guess most distrusted) group in the United States - even more so than homosexuals. Do you realize how much you have to be hated to be hated more than gays in the united states?

I really don't see a lot of difference in behavior between atheists and the religious; both have a tendency to be smug and superior and to prescribe their belief system (or lack thereof) to everybody else.

Agnostics are superior to all of you!

which is a similar argument used against homosexuals... that we are somehow 'better off' because we can disguise our minority status

which is the biggest load of bullshit when applied to gays, and also when applied to atheists.
