    Spider-Man Preview

Pretty much every hero has had to fight blind at one point or another. It'd be nice if Waid had acknowledged that it was a cliche, and that Spider-Man is probably really good at it by now.

Seriously, I mean he's got a whole extra sense dedicated to helping him dodge/hit things he can't see.

They've kind of lost it in regards to artists it seems, just throwing a penciler(s) issue by issue.

There was at least that sense of something like a common rotating team at the beginning of BND.

That is just stupid. His spider-sense doesn't give him any sense of direction? I've never read Spider-Man say "Oh no, my Spider-Sense is tingling! Someone may be trying to shoot me! First, I shall locate this threat then I shall dodge appropriately!" He just moves, and I'm nearly sure he sort of knows where it's coming from because he's said stuff like "My spider-sense is screaming from all sides!" when there's big bad danger.

Also, sort of diminishes the threat of this new villain if he flies off after getting a little web in his face.

the thought bubbles give it a really retro feel. am i the only one who feels like he's reading a preview for a comic written in the '60s but updated with mildly new art?

(if that was barry kitson in that first part, he was kind of bringing his B game)

Yeah. I prefer narration boxes. I thought it was decided that after Bendis experimented with them on Mighty and it sucked that they would go back in the vault.

Excessive thought bubbles always take me out of the story. I just can't imagine someone having such complete and extensive thoughts while fighting for his life.

Course, it could be worse. He could be describing how his Spider-Sense works out loud.

Bendis ruined the bubbles on purpose, putting them in for no reason.

Man, everyone hated the thought bubbles in Mighty Avengers but me. I loved seeing all the little stray thoughts flying through people's heads. But I enjoy thought bubbles anyway, so long as they're not used in lieu of developing the characters through meaningful dialogue and actions.

Too often I think comic writers, constrained by factors like page count limits and artists unwilling to draw more than they need to, tend to fall back on caption boxes and thought bubbles to quickly explain how a character's feeling, what their motivation is, or what they're doing. They forget that whole "Show, don't tell," thing. Which really makes me appreciate all the writers that can achieve a comfortable balance between the two extremes.

i actually didn't mind the thought bubbles in MA. i didn't love them, but they were funny sometimes and it was kind of an interesting idea. if every comic did it, i'd probably get sick of it pretty quick, but i can live with it in a book or two.

that spider-man preview specifically, though- it was the voice of the character that made me feel that way. that old kinda-amusing-complete-sentence-in-his-own-head just makes me feel like it's 1972 again. dig it.

The Wonder Woman #32 preview from The Source looks interesting. It could be more authentically D.C.ish (like making this street K Street with all the baggage and implication that carries with it) but I kind of want to read this book now.

The source is putting out so much stuff now they've effectively neutered other sites like Newsarama and CBR. Better to control the previews and interviews on your website then through some third party where dissent is allowed.

just read it and see what you mean. thought bubbles used to redundantly state what the art is already showing.

It has a Spidey joke about marriage, although I think Bendis is taking the piss out of OMD rather than be like other writers who do it just to piss off readers.

Preview for Dark Reign: The Hood.

Apparently it'll help illuminate what happened between the Hood's debut mini and the present to make him the man he is today.

Ah. So Wolverine #72 will be out next week. Along with a whole bunch of other cool comics.

Incredible Herc will be fantastic. I know that because of this:
Except that someone is quite conspicuously absent.

Irish people have little rodent eyes don't they? Or am I thinking of gerbils... I get those two confused all the time.

That Banshee is rather odd looking, isn't he. It reminds me of another character... can't put my finger on who... but in what's obviously a Banshee outfit.

    That's U-Go Girl, from X-Force/X-Statix.

It's a pretty good series, and it gave us the naked Mr. Sensitive v.s. naked Iron Man fight.

Millar probably didn't even realize he was teaming up a Nazi with a Jewish concentration camp survivor.

And I really think Millar jerks off every time he writes about America being destroyed or criticizing it. It's so common in his stuff.

Huh, Millar's using Wanted's premise that, by teaming up, the villains are somehow able to miraculously overthrow the heroes, the military, and the armed populace.

Because heroes never fight large groups of villains?

Well, not without the use of rhetorical questions, bold letters every other word, and frequent uses of "Oh my God!" or "Geez!" or "Jesus!"

Also, never doubt Millar's ego. It works because he wrote it.

I think he would have been better off glossing over exactly how the villains came to win. That explanation of how they took out the X-Men (Mysterio fools Wolverine into seeing his teammates as villains, and his teammates won't attack Wolverine because they're afraid of hurting the immortal man) was just the worst.
