[Anime Thread] A Pirate in a mask tries to redeem himself to his crew.

Okay folks time for us to start talking anime. Spring's almost over so start speculating on the Summer shows I guess.

First a PSA from our lovely moderators -
Hi, I'm ElJeffe! You might know me from such mod actions as cleaning up gold-farming spam and jailing the fuck out of people. Today I'm here to talk to you about your new anime thread.

This is to be your new home for the next 100 or so pages. Here, you may discuss anime and things related to anime and whatever the fuck else people who are into anime do. Of course, hentai is beyond the scope of this thread, and anyway, what the fuck is wrong with the people who dig that shit, I mean seriously?

What you will not engage in here is retarded drama and bitching and whining. If you want retarded drama, go watch Desperate Housewives or Wife-Swap or something. This is to be a happy thread full of happy commentary. If I have to lock it for the same stupidity that raped the last incarnation, the anime thread will not be coming back.

Now FIGHT! I mean talk! Thanks to Kelor for the majority of the OP

Spring season series currently airing.

Of those we've got a number that people are following:

Basquash!: Giant robots playing basketball in Nikes. Basketballs are not the only thing you will see bouncing.

Sengoku Basara: Adaption of the video game series, basically Dynasty Warriors Japanese style. The crazy action anime of the season.

K-On: Slice of life series about a group of high school girls starting up a band to save the music club at their school. The catch? They can't play to save themselves.

Valkyria Chronicles: Adaption of the video game.

Full Metal Alchemist - Brotherhood: Remake of the series, follows the manga more closely this time around. Episodes are available for streaming here each week a couple of days after it shows in Japan.

Cross Game: Slice of Life series of a boy playing baseball. Highly recommended by a lot of people here.

Eden of the East: A man finds himself in front of the white house with no clothes, a gun and a mobile phone linked to a bank account with eight and a half billion yen on it. Again, highly recommended.

OAVs:

Spice and Wolf
Lupin
Gurren Lagann Movie (1st half)

Man, the latest Ippo episode has some craziness that's a bit reminiscent of Sengoku Basara.

So far it's definitely one of the most enjoyable fights yet in the new season, and I get the feeling that the next episode will be even better.

Some nice new music in this episode too, seems they have some songs they save for certain characters. I've been enjoying the new music much more than the previous series, with the exception of the instrumental version of Inner Light, of course. Really if they just included that then it'd be perfect.

I suppose by a sort of stretch, yes, it is true: they're all a bunch of weirdos behind their otherwise 'normal' appearances. I mean, Asahina and Nagato do have some sort of rivalry, I suppose (?), but they're not locked in a magical duel with one another. Asahina can't shoot beams of energy out of her eyes (unless I missed an episode?), Yuki isn't actually a witch. Tsuruya doesn't actually betray Asahina.
Minor novel spoilers; if S2 shows them actually filming the movie they'll probably cover this, but it makes the first episode make more sense.
Asahina actually was shooting beams of energy out of her eye. She doesn't have that power normally, but notice when she shoots the beam that she's wearing a contact lens to change the color of one of her eyes. Haruhi subconsciously makes it so that when Asahina has a different eye color she has that power; when Nagato tackles her she bites Asahina to inject some nano-machines or something to counteract the power.

I'm almost done with the first series of Hajime no Ippo. Just finished up episode 62.
I appreciate how much this anime delves into boxing history and the references to the world stage. The Dempsey Roll thing was really weird. I had thought the makers of the series made up something until the coach named it. And sure enough it was a real deal.

Yeah, it's a pretty nice touch. Shows that the creator did some research, at the very least.

I enjoy how the episode previews in the first series would use relevant boxing terms. It's a little thing I miss in the new series, though it's understandable why they wouldn't; I imagine that after 70-some episodes of previews they'd be hard pressed to find terms they haven't used.

I've only seen the first...5 episodes, but does Tsubasa Chronicles ever get good? That first arc in a modern-ish urban setting with two gangs fighting by literally made me cringe at an over-arching story that otherwise seemed interesting.

Might want to put my Slow climb in quotes as I've watched about 330 episodes in 31 days. That's not terribly slow.

It's going to slow down now that I don't have a good handle on 350 and up, but whatever.

I think I've figured out how One Piece filler works.

    1. It's probably going to have a very young kid in it.

    2. If it lasts three or more episodes, it is going to suck.

Example: The filler right after Enies Lobby but before they leave is good. One offs, well paced, not annoying. The filler after they leave. Yerck.

OP rap is best part about 4kids dub. That and some of the voice actors fit really well.

It's not super important, considering it was only just released last Comiket... nearly a decade after the original novels were sold. But yea, it ends the series on a more upbeat note than the original epilogue to part 7. Plus it has proto-Akira Seo, and I can't say no to that.

I think the last anime i got in was chrono crusade and before that CCSakura and the clamp spin off. What do you suggest for a romance that will not make me roll my eyes more that 12 times an ep.

    Romance anime:

    Paradise Kiss
    Nodame Cantabile
Honey and Clover (really, you could just watch everything released under the "noitaminA" label)
    ef -a tale of memories-
His and Her Circumstances (has some major flaws, but still one of my favs)
    Kimi ga Nozomu Eien
    Only Yesterday
School Rumble (more of a comedy)
Spice and Wolf (the romance is a bit of a 2nd fiddle, but it's a great show regardless)
