Picked this up on the way home last night and played for about an hour and a half and am really enjoying it. Haven't played a Klonoa game since Klonoa 2 the day i bought my PS2. Had to turn those voices off though that blue things voice was so annoying.

Does anyone know what the graphic filter option is?

This is the description given in the manual.

"A graphic filter can be turned on to increase the sharpness of the picture quality. This feature only works with component connections. Defaults to off."

Ah, nice. I turned that on and it seemed to smooth out the jaggies on the edges.

Alright i'm almost positive i found the hidden challenge rooms ("almost" because i don't know if these were in the old game or not), details in the spoiler.
After beating the game select mirror mode and head back to a level. While in the level there should be a white portal somewhere in the level, jump in it to enter that stages bonus challenge. I'm not sure if these are in every level (iv'e confirmed them in 5-1 and 1-1) but after you beat them you get a gold coin that shows up on the map screen. I'm not sure whether they unlock anything or if it's just there to look nice, but you do get confirmation that you've gone out of your way to complete them.

Wow, I guess this game really left a mark on people! :|

I picked it up today on a whim, since it was only $30, I've never played it and I'd heard a lot of good things about it in the past. Is conversation on the game played out since it's a remake, or did virtually no one buy it? (I already know its pitiful NPD showing, even though it was only out a few days.)

    And, hey, free taco!

I'm thinking that in this case it's more due to the fact that it's a remake rather than the fact no one here bought it, because with the exception of maybe the challenge rooms there nothing really large to discuss.

Also just how poorly did it sell? I didn't think we got sales data for may games until mid june...

I'm disappointed in you guys. I know the Klonoa series is largely overlooked by the public, but I figured you people would give it more attention. This thread was bumped down to page 7.

As a pleasant surprise, I received a copy to review today, so I want to discuss this wonderful game some more.

Baladium's Drive is one of the best boss themes ever.

I would just like to say that Baladium's Drive is an astoundingly good piece of boss music and it's probably my favorite piece of track in the series.

Also i wouldn't be to disappointed over the lack of discussion about the game, i'm pretty sure that it's less that no one cares and more that there's not a whole lot to discuss.

And lastly because i have no clue myself, does anybody know if you get some indication that you've 100% cleared the game? I'm not sure if i'm still missing something or if it's just supposed to be taken for granted.

I got my copy in the mail yesterday. Played it for awhile, getting through the first three bosses. I can definitely see the complaints about it being too easy - I haven't really struggled with anything yet. I've really enjoyed it so far, though - they definitely did a great job with the art direction and style, and the level design is pretty clever.

Going out of town for the weekend, though, so I won't be able to get back to it until Monday night at the earliest, and then I'll be picking up Punch-Out from the post office on Tuesday morning since that should arrive tomorrow while I'm gone.

I remember reading somewhere where the developers said if 1 sells enough they'll remake 2, and if both of em do well enough he'll make a Klonoa 3 for the wii.

I finally got a chance to sit down and play this today. There are some things I could nitpick, but I'm so glad that Joka's Phantomile voice is no longer obnoxious.

I miss Ghadius' original voice though. It was much more menacing in the original.

I could nitpick how the music is unchanged from the original, but I'm loving the surround sound effect that the tracks have gotten.

The english dub frustrates me so much. Everybody sounds wonderful (especially Hewpoe and Joker), but I can't bear listening to Klonoa. Were they purposely trying to make him more appealing by sounding like Sonic, or were they just not aware of his age?

Wasn't Klonoa supposed to have garbled Animal Crossing speech patterns, or did they just do away with that?

The original dialect is the Phantomile language, and yes you can select it, although it was redone due to new cutscenes. Doesn't look like you can pick Japanese, but Phantomile is the only real choice anyways.

I'm really liking the game a lot—never played the original, though apparently everyone else did so I just missed the boat. :( I'm taking my time with the game, so I just got to Vision 4-2. The different paths and platforming to find all six hidden dudes in each level is pleasantly surprising.

Well as I said, the english dub is great with the exception of Klonoa. I really have doubts he can pull off the more emotional moments later on. Even if he could, he sounds too old and that's the simple fact.

Well i guess that settles it. Now i'm curious to see both the bad and the good and that aside i needed a reason to play through the game for a third time. Although if Klonoa's voice is as bad as it seems the scene where
    Grandpa dies
should make for an interesting and/or unintentionally hilarious watch.

You can switch voices on the fly at anytime, so it's not like you need to play the whole game with one language track.

I wish they'd release Klonoa Heroes over here. It's a Klonoa RPG, right? Also if I recall, it establishes a "permanent continuity", so any future games will probably reference it.

If Wikipedia is correct it's an action rpg with an alternate universe plot which i suppose would make it the Klonoa equivalent of Metal gear acid.

That kinda reminds me of the redesigned Nathan Spencer in the new Bionic Commando and if that game was proper indication, it is a very good thing that this one got shot down.

Is the story much better in Klonoa 1 then? I've been skipping pretty much all the cut-scenes as soon as they pop up in Klonoa 2 because they're so boring compared to the wonderful platforming. From what I can make out I am escorting Pikachu and Yuna to save the world by ringing some bells and collecting the 7 dragon balls which get stolen by some talking cats lead by some girl who has made a copy of Klonoa's ring. Snooze :P

Gonna list some old games on ebay so I can buy this Wiimake, I just love the way Klonoa controls and the way the game keeps giving new things to figure out within what is a very simple move set.

1's has a far more simpler story with minimalistic storytelling leading to legitimate man tears moments.

2's is still a lot of fun, though.

I realized that Klonoa 2's story bugged me after I finished the game and the hype started to wear off. If you liked the gameplay but not the pacing, you might still look into the remake. It's been a few years since I last played Klonoa 2, but I'm thinking that Klonoa 1's story segments are much shorter. Unless they made them longer in the remake, that is.

maximumzero: It's hard to resist at that price. I think I'll go ahead and order it tomorrow.

Did you grab Dream Champ Tournament? How is it?

Edit: Oh, anywho, the artistic style/design of this game reminds me very much of a mix somewhere between Night and the first two Rayman titles. I love it. The graphics are beautiful, the graphic filter is a nice touch, as are the vocal options. I like the authenticity of the Phantomile voices, but the english voices aren't really too bad either.

I wish all third-party games looked this good.

I haven't play through enough of the game to comment on it's soundtrack.

I never owned a PSX or PS2 so outside of Empire of Dreams on the GBA this is my first experience and I loves it.

I swear at this point the Wii is a 2D platforming fan's dream. This, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wario Shake It, A Boy & His Blob, and the arguably superior port of Donkey Kong Jungle Beat.

Not to mention current and upcoming Wiiware options (Lost Winds, Megaman 9)

"Arguably" is right. The control gimmick is part of what made that game so damn awesome. Removing the bongos reduces it to an easy, bland platformer, since the levels were designed around the controls and just aren't suited to the accuracy a more standard setup provides.
