Back with the start of my 2250!
Orcs and Goblins, 2082pts. Lord: Black Orc Waross (General)
Black Orc Warboss w/ Martog's Best Basha, Spiteful Shield, Warboss Umm's Best Boss 'At, boar chariot
Going back to the conversation about the Hydra from the end of the last thread--
I'm a Dark Elf player who doesn't use one, largely because it doesn't appeal to me, but also because I hear it's too good and I don't want to (completely) rape my friends. I've been having a lot of trouble cracking armor though (Empire knights with a warrior priest, specifically). To try and overcome 1+ armor I've run:
-14 Black Guard, 7 wide, with ASF Banner, Crimson Death (S6 Halberd), and a Master wielding Soulrender (Great weapon, -1 AS). This unit failed to beat 5 Empire knights with a Warrior Priest.
-14 Executioners, 7 wide, with Death Hag wielding ASF Banner. Same thing.
I'm thinking of trying to use the unit that I used to take out chariots at 2,000+:
5 Cold One Knights, and a Dreadlord with a Hydra Blade (+D3 attacks) Potion of Strength (+3 Strength for one round) and Pendant of Khaeleth. Getting the charge on other cavalry is tough with them, though.
A Cauldron of Blood seems like it could help, but i'd probably have to devote more resources to protecting it from fast cav/etc. Can it really move?
I'm torn because it seems like the Hydra performs a necessary function in the Dark Elf list, it just does its job a bit too well.
I've tried the 14 Executioners with ASF banner, and you can also give them the AP banner for an additional boost. In all honesty, sometimes the Hag is better than the unit in that case. I'd also suggest using a Cauldron for the extra attack. The problem is when you run into an opponent who's patient enough to bait your Hag out.
EDIT - Cauldron of Blood can't move anymore, but it's not that hard to protect (especially with the build in 4+ ward save). In almost every list I have a unit of Shades and 2 Dark Riders, and I just have one unit loiter between the Cauldron and any threats. Also, if you have a RBT they can cover the Cauldron.

also, reduce the size of your spider riders, nix a goblin unit, put in a shaman at least, if not 2
f you have the points, take a savage boar boyz unit
Those are options, but the list you got doesn't suck either. I'd take the BSB, as leadership issues are known to crop up in O&G armies.
I would reduce the spider riders to 5. If you do want boar boyz, I'd drop a NG unit. All depends on your tactics and whether or not you like how boar boyz play.
Losing the giant is another option as well, since they tend to be shooting magnets. (But they're awesome to build, so go with it anyways. )

I'm trying to work with what I have, which means I'll have to do a lot of proxying (and I reeeally don't want to do a lot of proxying if I don't have to). Also, I do have a Shaman, will probably add a second though.

Anyone have any tips on how to un-glue a model? All of my Saurus have hand weapons and I want to give them the oh so awesome spears but their arms are all securely fastened. They are unpainted, so if it strips paint, no big deal.

My list changes constantly depending on who I'm playing and what the magic scene is like with that particular person. My most common opponent by far is Draeven, and we have an understanding on magic, usually limiting to 2 level 2 casters at 2k-2250 games. We also don't do special characters around these parts.
Here's what I'd take under that assumption at 2k:
Characters
Exalted Hero
Rending Sword
Enchanted Shield
Favor of the Gods
Chaos Steed
Chaos Sorcerer
Mark of Tzeentch
Power Familiar
Conjoined Homunculus
Dispel Scroll
Chaos Steed
Chaos Sorcerer
Infernal Puppet
Chaos Steed
Core
Chaos Hounds x5
Marauder Horsemen x5
Mark of Slaanesh
Musician
Flails
Marauder Horsemen x5
Mark of Slaanesh
Musician
Flails
Chaos Warriors x12
Mark of Khorne
Shields
Standard Bearer
Warbanner
Special
Chaos Knights x5
Standard Bearer
Banner of Rage
Chaos Knights x5
Mark of Tzeentch
Standard Bearer
Blasted Standard
Chaos Ogres x3
Mark of Khorne
Musician
Chaos Armor
Great Weapons
Dragon Ogres x3
Great Weapons
Thats probably what I'd take if I was trying to win without being a complete prick.
If I was going for the Full Beard, I would be dropping the warriors to either upgrade the Ogres to Dragon Ogres, or take more Knights of Khorne w/Banner of Wrath in their place. Would also either bump the Exalted up to Lord w/Runesword and Runeshield, or take a 3rd sorc with the book of secrets, depending if I needed more fightey or more magickey. Dropping the warriors does require finding points for a 3rd unit of Marauder horse to make the min core. Would probably unload the hounds in that case. Banners become optional if points are scarce. Banner of Rage and Blasted Standard are my priorities, other standards/standard bearers in units could go if I needed the points.
When I'm feeling jaunty, I sometimes make room to slip two spawn in. Otherwise I basically avoid rares.
If I wanted to play it soft, I would unload the Dragon Ogres for spawns and Marauder footmen of Khorne w/plate & noodle.
What's a good combination of runes for a CC Thane?
Hmmm... When you say "CC Thane" do you mean a line fighter, up there with the Ironbreakers, or the prize at the bottom of the unit of Quarrellers?
Front line fighter up there with the Ironbreakers - a meaty tornado of stunty limbs and axes.
EDIT: Wait a second. Can you put runes on a Crossbow?
First, yes you can put runes on a crossbow, but then it stops being a crossbow and becomes a magical hand weapon, just like if you put runes on a great weapon. Sorry.
Anyway, line thanes want to be as tough as possible, so...
Gromril armour, shield, Rune of Stone, Rune of Iron, Rune of Preservation.
And he needs to be able to deal with what his unit can't, so...
Axe with Rune of Might and Rune of Fire.
Since we've got a few points left...
Ring with Rune of the Furnace.
Total 70pts.
I agree with this build, except to point out that it would be your full 75 point allotment. At least as long as I remember correctly.
And also I have to agree with the crossbow-becoming-magic-hand-weapon thing, except to point out there is the Master Rune of Grimm (or somesuch) that A.) makes it a magical Great Weapon and B.) allows further runes to be inscribed.

still think you should cut a gobbo unit for some boarz, but other than that much better
also, grimgor
Greenskins without Grimgor? Madness.
Well, you can move it like you move a normal warmachine as far as I know, but it's not the old-style Altar where you had to cart the sucker along.
Its not Chaos Dwarfs. Post was very clear that the next Army release for WHFB was Skaven. There's just "something else" for Fantasy first.
You want something precise or approximate?
Oh, oh, post a list with a Hellcannon!
Shooting is for pussies. Khorne doesn't approve.
But it's like a challenge! Keep your shitty-ass Dwarfs alive or you lose 102 VP!

Holy shit why does no one take Razordons. It's a fucking M6 Helblaster that doesn't jam.
