[Let's Play!] Final Fantasy 11 (Now with playlists in the correct order!)

Tube told me to put it here.

Welcome to my 'Let's Play!' of Final Fantasy 11. This is an unusual LP, in that it is covering a game with no real end. Recognizing that, I am just going to go through areas and detail the fantastic art style as well as game play mechanics and the peculiarities that make FFXI such a solid gaming experience.

Here is a page telling a little bit about the character I am using, for reference purposes.

http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/User:Just_Bri_Thanks

This thread is not for general discussion about FFXI, for that please go to the Massively Multi-player sub-forum and join the discussion already in progress here.

Hey, there is a map under the first spoiler tag!
complete_world_full.jpg

Part the First, in which Bri shows off his crib:
Here I walk around my house and show you what is up with the housing in FF 11. The first two minutes has excessively loud music, please bear with it, it is only 2 minutes and I can't turn it down for that part.

Part the Deux, in which Bri give the nickel tour of Bastok:

The lovely city of Bastok. *cough*. Home of the Hume and Galka. All the dust you can eat, with a side of grit.

Part three, In which we run around in San d'Oria:

My spiritual home of San d'Oria. Plenty of haughty elves to knock down some pegs and very scenic to boot. It is win/win.

Part four, Windurst:

Windurst with a special bonus surprise!

Part five, and the first adventure area; Sarutabaruta:

A handful of hand-shaped towers await!

Part six, Putting the Gusto in Gustaburg:

Here a rock lizard, there a rock lizard, everywhere a rock lizard-rock lizard!

Part seven; Ronfaure, and excuse the pun!:

Orc! Orcs! Orcs! Orcs!

Part eight; Kolshushu:

At last we see a crag.

Part nine; Zulkheim:

Long awaited, your patience is rewarded. Bonus; this video is nearly an hour long.

More will be filmed and uploaded as I can. Who knows where this train will end up?

Please use this thread to discuss the Let's Play directly, or what you would like to see in it.

Good idea on a Let's Play. Good way to get people to see what the game is about.

I'll keep an eye on this and suggest of things when I think of them.

Things that initially come to mind:

Explain how the AH works. It doesn't work like WoW or how you would expect an AH to work.

Also, probably show them good ways to get money for your early levels.

Getting to rank 2 in all three would be good too. The first missions are usually soloable (if I remember correctly) and get people into the story line of the game.
I can't view videos at work, so if you got this stuff up, ignore my stupid comment.

Are you in a Linkshell? It's so easy as long as you can find one. I mean... it's hard for a level 18 to get alone, so you do need high level character helping you. If you were on my server, Phoenix, I would help you.

Damn. Not having a Linkshell really sucks. =\

Just keep partying in the dunes and if you find some people you get along with, ask to get in. It's likely they're not asking you to join because they're not sackholders. I'm sure if you ask, they'll ask a sackholder and then get you a pearl.

The community as a whole is pretty generous and a lot of people are very willing to help out new players. I know I am when I get the chance. I remember I used to just hang out in the dunes when bored and helped people get their subjob items when I started playing a long time ago. This isn't really needed anymore since the people that play have their subjubs. But you still find people, like you, on occasion.

Solo to Lv 10 and then go party in Dunes to lv 20 and get those 2 items for your subjob quest.

WTB window mode so u can alt tab to check how to do quest but alas u can't alt + tab in FF XI.

So u use windower and be silent about it so u don't get ban for using it.

Good old days of FF XI.

They have a built in windower now, I believe. So you don't have to use windower and hope not to get banned. But it sucks compared to windower.

Yeah, I have a friend hopefully helping me out in a few, just not a sackholder in his ls. That said, I might try to see if I can get into his LS. Either way, those three items for subjob, skull is ridiculous. Could drop ghouls level a little :D

Gusgen ghouls are about 4 levels stronger than dunes.

Well when the game was made without a window feature. And to alt tab out of the game would crash it. But there is a third party mod that allows you to play in windowed mode. But it is against their TOS to use third party programs, so yes you do get banned.

I think they wanted a game where you couldn't just look up how to do a quest. They probably thought it would be more dangerous, more adventurous, or whatever.

In other words, they tried to control access to information in the internet age.

Or at least you would if the GMs gave a rat's ass about Windower (they don't)

Basically as long as you aren't pos-hacking or bot-claiming or doing something obviously stupid and malicious, nobody cares

Good ol FF 11. Been so long. It just lost its fun to me. Great game though. Ill definitely try FF XIV when that comes out though. I think after years and years of 11 I just got bored of it.

Although a LP of it should be....fun.

    Good luck!

Fun game, do not play without a set of solid friends. I played this game inside and out with a wide range of jobs/characters. I even had a relic account. I quit about a year ago and haven't looked back.

    Story/Quests:
Fantastic main quest/story. Requires a solid group of members to do anything worthwhile.

    Grouping:
Crappy way to search for groups. Level Syncing helps but it is still very standard grinding and lots of it.

    Gear:
    Limited Gear Progression
    Horrible Drop Rates
Very limited margin between good and great

    Jobs/Class:
    Bad job balancing.
Some jobs are not useful at the end game at all.

I think it might be cool to actualy do some of the main plot quests for COP and zillart. I know how hard it is to get some people who are actualy willing to go into promyvon though. Also it would be annoying if you've already done them to go to the goblin to get the cutsceens.

    Good stuff so far.

Btw, Bastok is built in the remnants of the quary that made the region so rich. That was basicly excavated on the backs of galkan slaves. God I played this game way too much back in the day. My lsmates actualy thought it was kinda funny that I actualy paid attention to the lore as I was going through the game instead of blowing through the cutsceens.
