I think the phrase is press-ganged. Gang-pressed just... well, it has entirely different connotations, you know?

You know, it was an aberration of the typing, but I think I'm going to leave it just like that.

Sleep++ if possible, just get her to down some NyQuil or Benedryl and knock her out for 6+ hours over the next few days and at night so she gets as much sleep as is possible.

You don't want anything that removes the fever since the raised body temperature is what helps kill the virus. We're looking to get well in 4 days not feel better today.

When I'm sick, I make tea with a shot of brandy in it.

Especially if I have a sore throat. Throat Coat tea with brandy is the best thing.

My wife was so stressed and sick before our wedding, she lost her voice 3 days out. Even the day before, she still wasn't talking above a very quiet whisper. There were serious concerns that I would be the only one saying any vows on the wedding day.

But yeah, rest, eat well, no strenuous activity. You can load up on cough medicine all you want, but unless you're actually giving your body a chance to recover, mostly what you're doing is suppressing symptoms, not curing the problem. All those ginger/honey/lemon drinks help a bit, but getting healthy is mostly a function of your body's immune system to fight off whatever's assailing it.

my mom has gone through a battery of tests that have shown nothing, except to suggest that she has the same condition that I have

she found this holistic website that claimed that the proprietor cured her IBS with food combinations

I generally consider my mother a highly intelligent woman, she got her masters in the 60's etc

she told me about this and asked if I wanted to try it

I told her not to buy any books, too late

I told her she was buying snake oil and not to believe something without rigorous testing and she got mad at me

are you saying we're all gonna get ulcers next time we eat sushi since we don't have a stomach ache?

it's not medical-grade cure, dude, I'm talking about suppression of anything that might appear as a result of a weakened immune system.

and I'm saying that's a stupid way to proceed, guessing blindly at what symptoms might appear and grabbing at dubious folk cures

why only stomachaches? why not anticipate a headache and try a folk remedy for that as well? or any other number of symptoms that aren't indicated so far that you just pull out of thin air?

stick with the symptoms that are presenting, don't worry about symptoms you have no logical reason to believe will present

ok, you don't really deserve that

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with eating wasabi of course, I'm just saying it doesn't make sense to start guessing at all sorts of symptoms she doesn't actually have and trying to treat them proactively
but of course like I agreed, eating some wasabi won't hurt
I just don't like that slippery argument that so many people use for folk remedies of dubious merit

So this morning my bride-to-be woke up with a cold.

Not a big deal normally, but we happen to be getting married in 5 days, and being sick on Saturday is, well not optimal.

Immediately I told her to put aside her ego and call in sick, she works in a lab so she won't really be missed today. Next up though we need to think of things to put inside her that will make her well for Saturday.

So what's it going to be, kids? I've heard Spiced Rum & OJ cocktails to raise the body temperature and provide vitamin C, ColdFX(tm) tablets, Echinacea, sitting outside in the sun, but none of that baseless advice compares to cold hard anecdotal evidence.

So give me what you got SE++. Cure the common cold in 4 days or less!

Sleep. As much as possible. Sleep.
