Assuming that we get all slots filled overnight, I'm intending for day 1 to begin this time tomorrow- i.e., the first vote close will be 24 hours after that.
Do the incoming attacks have to hit (make their attack role) in order to cause a decrease in Life, or is it automatic?
Does this refer to any PM concerning the game, or just PMs from the host?

It is automatic. A 10% attack will always reduce Life by 10%.
