Good Air Combat Games

So, I've got a hankering for some dogfighting. I know the Ace Combat series comes highly reccomended, but I'm looking for something that isn't so modern. I was thinking about Blazing Angels, since it supposedly has great multiplayer, but I don't know if I want to spend sixty bucks on a new copy, or even 35 on a used one.

What do you reccomend?

There's the whole IL-2/Pacific Fighters franchise. But those are serious simulators, for real men.

On the arcadey side, I don't know anything that's A) as good as Ace Combat and B) takes place on WW2.

Ace Combat is the only really awesome middle-of-the-road Air Combat series I know of.

I will attest to IL-2 being amazing but you can make it arcade-ish with the settings in game or ultra realistic.

It's a very fun game and the air combat is nice. Part of me wants to reinstall it.

Red Baron was so awesome, but is much too old to be seriously recommended.

Best damn WWI flight game I ever played though.

    Is Il-2 a PC Game?

I'm mostly looking for something I can fire up on my 360 in anticipation of Ace Combat 6. I guess I'll pick up some of the previous Ace Combats used.

    And I'll rent Blazing Angels.

Oh man, what is that thing in your signature, Rentilius.

That said, Crimson Skies maybe? Anything Rogue Squadron? That's Gamecube, though. N64 at very least.

Well, I'm kind of looking for something realistic, but with a very arcadey feel to it. I love the Blazing Angels demo, but I'm not sure if I want to spend 35 dollars on a used copy just for multiplayer.

Does anyone own Blazing Angels that can vouch for it?

Unforunately you're on the 360, which isn't exactly a flight simulator mecca, but if Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge for the XBOX works on the 360, I'd say go for that. The PC version is awesome and the XBOX version got good reviews, so that seem slike a pretty good choice.

The Xbox game is good, and does work on the 360. It's even more arcade-y than the PC game, though. I liked it but enjoyed the PC game more.
