The 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards takes place tonight on CBS, at 8/7c.

I can't be the only one that cares about the Emmys, right? And I certainly can't be the only one that cares about them since Neil Patrick Harris is hosting.

The full list can be found here.

Thoughts? Is it a completely forgone conclusion that 30 Rock and Mad Men will clean up? Any nice surprises in there, people you're secretly rooting for?

I would say it's a crime if Michael Emerson doesn't win on his third nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama. Also, Mad Men has three(!) of the four nominations for Best Writing...which would make it that much sweeter if "The Incident" came out on top in an upset.

I haven't seen Flight of the Conchords, but I'd also find it amusing if its sole nomination outdid 30 Rock's four nominations.

I was tempted to do my picks, then I started scrolling to the bottom of the page to begin typing them up ... and the list just keeps going and going. Halfway through I took a break to get some lunch.

Maybe I'll come back and do the ten most interesting categories after I take a nap.

    :^: for NPH though

The only one I remotely care about considering how many good shows are nominated is Bryan Cranston winning best lead actor in a drama series. Its absolutely ridiculous how good he is in Breaking Bad.

Let me save you some time:

*30 Rock wins everything in comedy again.
    *Mad Men wins Best Drama.
*Judas Frielander bashes Jon Hamm upside the head with a pair of golden nunchucks and claims Mad Men's Emmy for 30 Rock.
*The 30 Rock cast goes back to their studio and has their annual celebratory trophy fight.
*Hamm takes it out on Alan Alda, as both are attending the trophy fight for the guest-appearance nominations and Alda took that award.

Wait, isn't Dr. Horrible nominated for something

Also, if NPH doesn't sing at least one DHSAB song I will cut a bitch

Also also, the Emmys haven't happened yet right? cause in Iraq they got something for 'Creative Arts Emmys' and I was wondering what the fuck that was

The Creative Arts Emmys are kind of like those special category Oscars; they give them out a week beforehand.

    Ah, I see

As to my first question, am I right in assuming Dr. Horrible's nominated for something or horribly horribly wrong?

Because I thought I saw something on AOTS about the Emmys getting more "hip" and that was one of the examples

    How about both, hmmmmmmmmmmmm

How do you guys feel about Family Guy getting the Best Comedy nod?

Personally this season wasn't all that great, and in any case Family Guy owes everything to the Simpsons anyways, so if you're gonna throw animation a bone you should've thrown it to the series that made it all happen

Family Guy has always been a horrible show, so I'm happy with it being in the Best Comedy nominations; now it's in a place where it will never, ever win.

    Okay, that's hyperbole

I don't understand why they don't just list 30 Rock five times in every category it's nominated; is anyone actually in doubt it will win? And is it even that great, I mean really

30 Rock has been consistently pretty great for three seasons now (the first couple episodes of season one dragged a bit). I can see why it wins a lot.

I don't think I could ever make that choice between 30 Rock and The Office, so I'm happy for either.

And no, that wasn't anything close to hyperbole. Hyperbole would be to say that watching Family Guy gives you and all your loved ones cancer. I'm letting it off easy.

Emmy intel: Sunday's show will be 'Horrible'

But in a good way! Sources confirm to me exclusively that host Neil Patrick Harris will headline a Dr. Horrible-themed production number about midway through Sunday’s ceremony. Score!

If I didn’t know better, I’d say this year’s Emmys are going to be… I know it’s been done to death but I just can’t resist… this year’s Emmys are going to be… this is the last time I’ll ever do this… this year’s Emmys are going to be… legen — wait for it — dary!

The actual emmy's I couldn't care less about. NPH on the other hand, I will sit and waste my night and watch what he is going to do for this show. I have absolute 100% faith he will be hilarious when he is on stage. The actual awards I couldn't care less, they aren't going to convince me to start watching new shows or something. I have my regular list of tv I download and watch and i'm happy with that.

So tonight is going to be a casual night of weed and NPH and we will see how it goes. .....I wouldn't mind seeing breaking bad pick up a few awards tho and HIMYM.

You're also not even going to have a frame of reference for most of these shows that you're watching an award show for.
