So, to my shame, despite being the huge resident evil fan that I am, I've never played through RE4. I've played the first chapter probably 4 times, but never gotten much further then that. I'm finally making a serious go, and I'm on 5-2, and good lord that is a LONG game.
2 is still my favorite of the bunch. I had it on Nintendo64, I played it so many times I could literally run through it in less than 3 hours.
Hi5 on this. I was the same way.
I wish I could say I was like that with the rest of the games, but I didn't have a PSOne until -after- I got a PS2, and I barely did any PS1 gaming on my PS2, so I missed out on the first and third in the series and just haven't made an effort to get them. I didn't really care for 4 either, but I'm not going to start that argument.
But I did play Code: Veronica on my Dreamcast. Er, Once.
Anyone remember those old audio clips from years back where someone strung together the RE dialog to porno music? "Jill Sandwich, right?" "Uh. Ow" *zombie moans*
Resident Evil is a pretty cool dude, eh ITCHY AND TASTY. ITCHY. TASTY.
Fixed that for ya. I replayed the REmake a few months ago, and everything about it still holds up after all this time, especially the visuals. I just couldn't get into RE5, though; it felt like they were trying to amp up RE4's formula way too much, which didn't sit well with me. Up until then, though, the whole series has been great, Zero included (I am an unashamed Rebecca fanboy, so sue me). Can't wait until Darkside Chronicles comes out in a few months.
I think 5 was fairly good. I've never beaten it as Chris though. I played Co-op with my brother, and he wanted to be Chris. Had to play through as Sheva, after that I couldn't get used to Chris's right handedness.
Ah well, I'm pretty badass with the longbow

Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
Hrm, anyone have any recommendations for a good RE4 lets play? I played through up till the castle on my own, but had to give up the disk around then (was borrowing from a friend). I don't think I have that save anymore, nor do I think I actually want to play it. Though I wouldn't mind watching someone else do it.

There's this screenshot-LP from the Let's Play Archive but while it's informative, it's not very serious.
Here's hoping for a proper REmake of RE2. Lightgun games don't count.
At all.
As badass as that would be, you have to admit that Darkside Chronicles is looking pretty darn good. They've certainly improved the atmosphere and tension from Umbrella Chronicles from the videos we've seen.
Of course, the fact that Capcom just lazily ported the REmake and Zero to the Wii with barely-there motion controls doesn't make me very hopeful we'll see any more properly upgraded versions of the earlier games.
I remember watching my brother play through the first 3 games. I'm not sure if he actually managed to beat 1 but I did see the end of 2 and 3. The cutscene in 1 where you see the first zombie and he looks at you over his shoulder scared the shit out of me when I was a kid.
I miss the old school RE setup. The new ones just don't have the same kind of atmosphere.

Oh man Resident Evil 2 with PS3/360 level graphics. Droool. Not much chance we'd see that though, I think Capcom has unfortunately put the old RE formula out to pasture. Because the world needs more 3rd person action games.
Man, I LOVED RE1. I remember quoting lines of the game for years after we played it. When I first got it for PS1 I would invite friends over to walk down the hallway where the dogs jump out without telling them the type of game it was. Scaring people is fun
As clunky and corny as the series is, I love it. And this isn't nostalgia talking. Aside from RE4 (which I played when I came out on the Cube), I hadn't played an RE game until last October. I played RE1 DC, REmake, and RE2. Still got a ways to go. I'll probably pop in RE3 and Code Veronica for this year's month of spooky games.

Resident Evil 4 is a really good game, but it is bittersweet for me because I really enjoyed the old RE games and I fear that those games are dead and gone.
Funny that Capcom give up on the original RE formula, but they refuse to let the light gun games die. Darkside Chronicles does look amazing for a WII game.
They should give the merchant from Resident Evil 4 his own game.
You'll profit on selling arms during a zombie apocalypse.
The merchant is what elevated RE4 from an very good over the shoulder shooter to an excellent game in general. I like the implication that he wears contact lenses to fit in with the villagers.
Hey, who else thought that the monks and villagers were also getting all their weapons from him?

I want to know how RE5 managed to not be at least as good as RE4.
It didn't really have the same big game changes as the first, and those that were there were nothing revolutionary. Kind of like how Metroid Prime 2 wasn't as good as Metroid Prime 1.

Reminds me of the ICO pal cover, because it is superior to the US cover.
I've looked in vain for a proper wallpaper version of this cover art. If anyone has one please post it.
I fully believe this.

5 didn't tie up all loose ends did it? Cause I want an RE6, maybe have Barry as main character.
Too bad the music for the duel shock version sucks.
Also to bad they left the original voice acting out of the remake. It should have at least been an unlockable extra.

CV is my favorite.
I don't consider RE4 and RE5 to be in the series though really.
Excellent port/remake. One of my top RE games

I can vouch for that. Amazing what they managed to squeeze into a DS-card.
Let's Play Final Fantasy 'II' (Ch10 - 5/17/10)

This, and also 3 with REmake all on one disc. I would totally re-buy a Wii for this.
OCD be damned!

Only in so far as Resident Evil 4 ceased to be Resident Evil.
And if it did, well, it began life anew as Resident Awesome.
