Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it,
follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given
their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
Posts
Some I've posted (some on this very page), some I haven't.
Hope to have much better work in the coming months! (Not that this work is 'bad' per se, just Im an improvement junkie!)
Crits? Feedback? Love?
And thanks!
"hey potential employers, look at how excited we are about art! WOOOOAH!"

Otherwise, I love your cubone. You also get some neat colors in your environments, although I think those could use some expansion in terms of the skies/top area of the composition in them (particularly the city one, the cloudless haze works better on the one with the cave, I think).
Now that you mention the perspective on that character, it feels like such a noob mistake! haha. It doesnt make any sense at all!
And yeah, need to learn more about clouds...
The hiring director from CCP (makers of EVE online) told me my space marine wasn't 'real enough'. Which I should have asked her to clarify because that could mean a lot of things. She also said one of my environments would work well for an MMO called pirates of the burning sea, which is pretty bad ass because Im sooo down with pirates. She also mentioned that she does not want to see 'illustrations' (like the goblins and the sith lord)
And some other hiring directors told the same thing about the illustrations, and then they told me they want to see more iteration, and variation. It seems they are more interested in the process, and not the final design per se.
Learned a lot of other junk too, but that was the main stuff stressed on my work.
If I had to guess, they meant it looks too "fantasy sci fi". It looks awesome, but not functional, ie. no ability to turn the head, kinda inflexible and boxy below the waist.
But yes, a few more palm trees and that'd be perfect for it.
(The latter was sort of a quick painting by seargent himself, so if you meant there is not enough polish, I didn't want to try and supersede the original.)
I think as I do more of these, I will be able to do longer studies. But as it is, I need to get a better grasp by just doing a bunch of color studies.
I also feel the second one shows a progression from the first. So I'll do a few more, see what I'm learning, and assess the situation as I go. (And by no means do I mean to say I won't do longer studies, but to form a foundation I'm going to fire a few quick ones off.)
I think Im getting more comfortable sketching in PS. (And a weird alchemy head)
Watch those values for +2 Depth.
I feel like whenever I get bored, I go straight for the photoshop magic (adjustment layers)
That being said, this is looking better than your portrait studies.
I just started sketching and this is what came of it, probably because I've been watching a lot of star wars lately...
Ninja Update
And in case it's not immediately obvious, the idea here was to try and draw three distinctly different bi pedal war units.
Comments, crits??
Also, there will be a sketch dump in the coming days, maybe tomorrow.
I'll try and look some shit up and keep pushing the designs.
First here are some ones from more than a week ago.
I kind of got a kick in the ass about a week ago, and realized I was not working nearly hard enough to reach my goals. So, I have a new goal. I intend to do four sketch pages, and a one hour speed paint a day. I didn't quite reach my goal this week, but I'll get it next week! promise!
And the two speeds I got (have a ton to learn about these).
Here is what I got done this week (outside of my NDA work), mostly crap. Some too crappy to scan.
Only got one speed paint done. FAIIIIIILL
(one hour, from ref.)
Skeeeeetchessssss.
live model drawings are rusty bc I don't have regular access to them
Here's the work I got so far on my monthly challenge.
I think I need to work on the cropping of this last one to pump up the drama... Crits on that one would be sweet. Or anything really, haha.
CHEERS FUCKERS! (Time to relax and read my book
Also, the ones that say "5" and "10" on them...are those numbers indicating the time spent on each sketch, or a description of each person's Hot or Not rating?
Also, I <3 those crabs, it really feels like you nailed the lighting there.
