I would have less sympathy for cops if the WTO et al protesters weren't utter cockbags

The protesters aren't abusing the powers afforded them by their job, nor do they benefit from a sickening presumption of innocence when they do all manner of heinous shit

The protesters are at least providing a useful service to society in baiting these sociopathic fucks into outing themselves.

    No?

Black people do that. Protesters get beat up by good and bad cop alike.

Go jerk off to some corpse porn, casket

I'm just saying that in a protest, it's hard to see who is horrified by the violence and who is swinging the nightstick with maniacal glee

They basically do whatever the fuck they want because they're never punished appropriately for misconduct. Sometimes whatever they want is their job. Other times it involves tear gas before it's necessary. Other times it involves beating the shit out of random dudes on a bike. Other times it involves shooting helpless people. Depends on the cop. Really the solution is to punish them appropriately when they fuck up.

Historically pretty bad. I know that here they were really heavy-handed when the G8 conference was at Gleneagles, but they're better about things like Faslane, probably because there has been a permanent protest camp there since the 70s.

It is considered so permanent that it has it's own postcode and BT ran broadband cable to it.

ehhh, I've seen more than a few of these things escalate to violence because of police aggression

mainstream reporting of these events tends to be just this side of outright propaganda

You do realise that CS gas is quite capable of killing people through repiratory distress.

Also, on balance, I'm not sure there is much to choose from between being beaten unprotected with a blunt instrument and being firebombed while wearing armour.

Amusing things you get to do with CS:

First, jog and work out alot until you're good and sweaty. CS gas will burn wherever you're sweaty, that's why. Well inside the room, holding your breath, you're all going to say your name and service number out loud.

Now you know what that feels like. Now, you get a gas mask! glee!

But you don't get to put it on before the gas comes on. Oh no, you need to learn how to blow the gas out and how to quickly seal it properly.

Now you know that the gas masks fucking suck. Well, next time you're actually going to wear it before the gas comes on. How grand!

But you're going to have to eat this biscuit in there. So take it off, chew well, then put it on again and experience once again, that if this was sarin gas you should put your head beetween your knees and kiss your ass godbye instead of bothering with the mask

I'd be beaten any day. Bruises heal, bones set. And people dying from CS gas is pretty rare. I'm just saying the police are actually trying in theory to minimize harm. You all live in civilized countries.
