Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
After a rather chilly reception in the concert thread and the realization that we've been without a Protomen thread for a few days I decided to give my own shot at reviving it.
If you don't know, the Protomen are a group who travel the land telling the true story of Dr. Light and his battle against the oppressive Dr. Wily's regime.
They recently released the second part of this story: Act II: Father of Death, and last Friday they put on a CD release show in Nashville featuring both acts.
It was an utterly fantastic show, with around 40 musicians including the band, a brass section, strings section, and chorus all coming together to give a great performance, despite some technical issues.
Good news for those who missed it as well, the whole thing was filmed, and will either be up on the site or put on a DVD "If it's good enough", but I'm not sure of the time frame.
Anyway this thread is to continue discussion of the album or talk about the show if anyone else was there!

Pac Man's character is difficult to explain even to the Japanese -- he is an innocent character. He hasn't been educated to discern between good and evil. He acts more like a small child than a grown-up person. Think of him as a child learning in the course of his daily activities. If someone tells him guns are evil, he would be the type to rush out and eat guns. But he would most probably eat any gun, even the pistols of policemen who need them.
Chincy, did you buy that wicked poster that came up towards the end of the last thread?
The poster was sold out by the time I got there. I did get the shirt that super nerd guy up top is wearing, its a nice shirt despite it's questionable connections.
I looked when I got home and that poster is 15 bucks now. Yet I'm still considering it.
Shoggoth I didn't like their new album nearly as much as the first until I saw it live. If you get the chance, keep checking in here periodically, and when the dvd/video is posted give it a look, it might change your mind.
Also, T Crashmo: Wily was absolutely incredible. He only had one big song so he got to spend all his energy at once, and he really just went nuts with the role. Losing his hat and combing it back into a comb over, dancing up and down next to Panther, almost taunting him, it was an amazing 5 minutes.
Hopefully they become big enough so that they might tour Europe one day.
This is the best post you've ever made
Also, Wily is one slick motherfucker
Something one of my friends pointed out that you can't see in the pictures is that his jacket was actually misbuttoned on purpose. The level of detail they went to making him slick but still crazy was really impressive.
So I just saw 9, and a lot of the plot reminded me of the Protomen CDs, anyone else see the similarities?
How so?
Spoilered for those that haven't seen the movie, not much in the way of spoilers, though.
Spoiler:
Dude builds a machine for the good of the people, crazy war-general-type-dude re-purposes it as a killing machine. Other machines made by first dude strive to take it down.

Yeah I suppose.
Also, how his creations were all more than just machines or toys; they were part of him. Like how Protoman and Megaman were his children.

I think I know that guy.
There were more of him there than made me strictly comfortable, but they mostly stayed in the back while I hung out up front, so it wasn't too bad.
and try really, really hard to pretend otherwise

I like my videogame music bands but not enough to wear a shirt to one of their shows, that stupid lonely piece of shit

Yeah I got to talk to her briefly, and she said she had a Joe one and a Megaman one as well. I kinda wanted to commission one off of her.

The guy performing as Wily in the Hounds was definitely one of the best parts of the night.
Strutting on stage while slicking his hair back with a comb in that fancy suit, it was hard not to join in his enthusiasm
the listing is finally up on webster hall's website
there are five other bands on the CMJ bill for that night
i haven't yet called webster hall to see if i can get a regular ticket to get in
tweeted at protomen to see how long they think their set will be, no reply yet
downtime is their middle name
But I do enjoy the first from time to time.

I'm not lying, it's not a very good album, especially compared to their earlier efforts.
I enjoy a handful of songs on it tho!
Also yeah, I suppose I should see them live at some point.

it's so great
It's certainly a possibility these days.
