This game deserves its own thread...so discuss!

Here is some info:

Wiki wrote:
A Boy and His Blob is an upcoming platform video game developed by WayForward Technologies and published by Majesco Games for the Wii. It is slated for release in North America in October 2009, while a European release date is set for late 2009.

The gameplay of A Boy and His Blob is very similar to the original game's gameplay, though it uses a visual interface to better identify what each jellybean does. The protagonist feeds the titular blob jelly beans to transform him into one of fifteen different objects that can be used to solve puzzles and defeat enemies. Screenshots indicate that the game will feature an overground city level similar to the original, and will be a side scrolling 2D platformer. The game consists of eighty levels (forty standard and an additional forty hidden challenge levels) with the standard levels consisting of an average of ten hours of gameplay. A Boy and His Blob does not take advantage of the Wii Remote's motion detection or IR controls.

Plus it has what all games should: A hug button, for when your blob gets scared. <3

This comes out in 2 weeks, right? I look forward to it.

Typically TRU likes to run Buy 2 get 1 free deals on the second week of October, so this might come out during that sale.

I am quite hopeful that this one will be more fun than the original, and be everything that I had hoped that one would be.

Also, I am glad that the boy looks more like a boy and less like a young man.

I may be in the minority, but I much prefer really fluid, crisp 2D games, over 3d-created worlds. This game looks sexy as hell.

They not only broke the game somehow to remove all obstacles from most of those screens he ran through (the corn fields and caves had tons of stuff), but found a way to make it glitch out for an insta-win.

Anyway, yeah. Enjoyed the first game even though it was hard as balls, think that the level format is much more suited to its mechanics than that giant sewer underworld thing that you had to run around to get jellybeans in, but kinda disappointed that there's only 15 items to turn it into.

If you get to the last room, it removes all enemies from the game because it thinks the blob is in the cage. However, the planet is one giant loop, so the first screen is connected to the last. There's just an invisible wall preventing the player from getting there. You can throw jelly beans though, and if you throw one far enough, you can get it to think that it should be scrolling to the last screen to show what the jelly bean did to the blob in the cage, making it think you're on that last screen.

As for the other stuff, the airwalking is just basically the game thinking that you're in one continuous skid, so never applies the fall velocity, and I believe that the glitchy room is just a glitchy room that they missed in testing since it's kind of a weird hidden area. I think you can just walk into it without even doing anything special.

I'll be waiting for impressions and reviews but hopefully it will pan out well although i can't shake the nasty feeling that it will sink at retail irrespective of quality. Also i thought this game was being published by Nintendo for some reason, although i can't really think of what made me think that (was the original published by them?).

Man, the 360 and PS3 need to get their act together. Between this, Wario Ware, and Muramasa, the Wii is clearly winning on "platformers with ungodly pretty 2D animation"

I badly want this game to be a commercial success.

I really like the direction in which they took the concept, but it looks like one of those little gems that's bound to fail at the shop counter, and at the same time I know well enough that it's just not for me.

    Stolen from GAF:
Nintendo Power: A Boy and His Blob Review Summary:

They spend a lot of time talking about how beautiful and atmospheric the game is. Can't really summarize this, because I wouldn't do it justice. They also praise the enchanting musical score that further helps set the mood. They describe it as a "cartoon come to life." They refer to the game as refreshing and that it feels like unlike anything else released in the last 20 years. They love the concept of feeding a blob jelly beans to transform it into useful tools. There's no life meter, no lives counter, no level names, no voiceovers, no script, no dialogue and no savescreen (it autosaves). This could be detrimental in some games, but in BaHB, it works because the story is convincingly told through its beautiful animation. They compare the relationship between the blob with the relationship of Yorda and the protagonist in ICO for PS2. Another word they use to describe the game is challenging. The game has 80 levels and finding all the hidden treasures and conquering the bonus levels is no easy task. The final word they use to describe the game is fun.

    8.5/10

Looks wonderful and initial impressions are very positive. I'll definitely be getting this at some point.

This is the kind of game I'll want to play with my kids some day. The original made such a huge impact on me as a child simply because of how unique it was, and I'm glad to see WayForward polishing it up so much. I can't wait.

From the trailer, I'd agree. So nice-looking.

Man, this really flew under the radar. Is Majesco's PR department asleep or something?

Jim Cummings. Current voice of Tigger, Winnie the Pooh, and bales of characters in cartoons from the 90s (though not as much nowadays, oddly).
