The name itself is just so weird. Africa is a whole damn continent full of countries - it's like naming a game "Europe" or "Central Asia".

That's the beauty of labouring under the vestiges of colonialism. In most people's heads, Africa is probably just dusty, barren, orange and full of rhinos.

    And crazy flesh eating diseases.

When the PS1 was released I remember this underwater game that was released for it. There was no action you just played as a diver exploring the underwater world. Afrika reminds me of that game, except Afrika looks gorgeous.

Hmm, buy a PS3 with Afrika or go to the real Africa and have your ass rocked, I think I'd prefer the former. ;-)

I remember reading somewhere that it was stated in a preview or an interview that there are some really interesting/innovative ideas in the game, but whoever was doing the preview/interview wasn't at liberty to reveal them just yet.

...wow, this thread became strange quick.

Well, anyway, I am nice that Sony is pushing some innovative titles the their console...LittleBigPlanet and this one too. Nice to play something different that doesn't neccessarily involve killing virtual people. Of course, killing virtual people is awesome, but change is cool.

This looks more like someone's art portfolio then an actual game. If I wanted to see animals and take pictures of them, I'd go on an actual safari or go to the zoo if I didn't care for seeing them in their natural habitat.

Now if it would take more of an approach like say, Echo the Dolphin did, then that would be something.

You must not have Flash or something, because it's right there under the wall of text.

So it *is* Pokemon Snap with realistically rendered real animals on the PS3 after all! It also hinted at some kind of web-integrated photo gallery.

Am I the only one who is not all that impressed by this video? I mean it's impressive that they have so many animals in view at once, but the textures on all the non-furry/hairy animals are terrible. The elephants look like hovercraft when they walk. Something that gigantic and heavy should not keep a perfectly level body when its legs are moving.

Except Pokemon Snap was on rails (which is what made it ridiculously boring after one play through) but from that trailer, it looks like you can go wherever you want in Afrika.

Anyway, it looks pretty interesting. Maybe they could release it on the PSN in the US and Europe, instead of a retail release, where it wouldn't do so well?
