Ok I'll be honest I thought the whole thing was pretty fucking gay until we were all stuck in that tiny changing room and I turned around and was surrounded by women in their underwear and most of them had cool tattoos.

So how does a model get fame on the runway, or at least for this type of show. The point is to look at the clothes and the overall message, and the model is just the canvas right? How does canvas get famous?

by being a good compliment to the work
as much as they are the canvas, the canvas affects the way you view a piece for better or for worse

bevotron I noticed some of the girl's poses at the end of the runway did a really good job of showing the audience how the light would hit it in different poses so you could sort of see what it would look like in every day life

mnoll: my older sister used to model!
and my younger sisters are really into watching shows about it

also pretty much every girl in my classes at school are going into fashion art and they are incredibly talented and creative people

    trent: yeah good canvases!

tam: yeah tam is right too. being open to more "unconventional" forms of art has really helped me with my own more commercial stuff (no really... it really has) all art has some aesthetic, whether it appeals to you or not. being open and observing it can really help you out in your own practice
inspiration is everywhere and all that stuff

Yeah, that makes sense. There are bound to be brands or types of canvas that experienced artists will prefer, and since a model does quite a lot more with what he or she wears than canvas does, it would follow that very "good" ones will be more sought after.

It is very interesting though. I would very much like to speak with one of these designers, and find out how different it is to have to work with the human factor. I'm sure that while she got a pretty general pick of who she wanted in the show, she still had to deal with the fact that no model is going to do exactly what you expect in presenting your vision. It might be neat to see how they mentally take that into the overall presentation, or even if it matters all that much.

Canvas that can have a tantrum and storm off! Imagine having to deal with that at 3 am in the morning in the art lab. Although I guess in the extremely metaphorical sense you can still have that while painting.

there was this one episode of canada's next top model where they were made to wear dresses made entirely out of kleenex (absolutely gorgeous work, very fine details, looked so soft made out of fucking kleenex)
anyway, chick is told not to touch it
reaches out, grabs the zipper, rips the whole thing
then later, trips on stage and rips it even more.

This is about making us feel good for being so much better than them because we obviously don't do stupid, vapid shit like that.
