I live in the suburban sprawl capital of the universe. I could spend days driving through Christmas lights within a 1 mile radius.

all the Santa presents have their own wrapping paper that is kept in super duper top secret places

My mom used to do that. She kept the Santa wrapping paper and 'to/from' notes at work. She also had other people write out the to/from notes so I wouldn't recognize her handwriting.

    Mom was smart.

I barged into Mom's room without knocking while she was wrapping presents "from Santa."

She tried to explain that as we lived in an apartment without a chimney, Santa gave her the presents early to give to me.

My folks did the same thing.

Hell, they even kept the presents hidden at a friends house up the street. Apparently, it was tradition that at around midnight, both sets of parents would meet on the street between houses, exchange the gifts that the others were hiding/storing for each other and then have a glass of spiked hot chocolate.

I can't find the original version of Steve Vai's cover of Christmas Time is Here. It's sad cuz it's so good and I want to share it, but not when it's some guy in his living room playing it. :(

    I love Christmas.

I am probably not going to tell my kids (if I have any) that there is a Santa Claus. I am hoping to raise kids that aren't little jerks who go around ruining it for the parents who like to lie to their children.

I haven't really had a proper holiday since I was 12, so I've grown to just be indifferent about them. They're nice if you have people to share them with, I guess. This'll be my first Christmas without snow, so that'll be really strange.

I remember two Christmases ago I was having a very dull and frustrating Christmas Day around my Grandad's house when I decided I had had enough of sitting around watching TV and went for a walk and it was pretty good. Going for a walk on Christmas Day is great because it's completely empty outside, there's not a soul around. Just the sounds of families enjoying the day as you go past houses.

    I guess it's a bit sad but it's free.

I might do it again this year and take the dog.

i feel okay defending it, 'cause it's not really country.

This christmas will be extra special.

We actually have friends worth half a damn this year so we have people (besides family) to spend the time with and get gifts for.

Plus, it's the first christmas since my roomies left and took their godawful cat with them. Last year he knocked down the tree EVERY night. I had a breakdown after two weeks and we took it down. My roomies denied it was him but hey, this year they're gone and the tree hasn't fallen down once.

I've got good news and bad news about 6th level, That Guy. The good news is that Forbiddance spell allows you to prevent enemies different alignment from entering a consecrated area, which is actually useful! The bad news is that the only other new sixth level spell makes lunch for everybody. Guess which one the party is going to expect you to cast.

I really like to give presents but I am pretty bad at it, generally. I do not care to receive gifts and I nearly got through my birthday without getting any. Slowly and surely I am depriving people of chances to make me happy.

I would really rather they give money to charity or something because I don't need any other stuff (and what I do want or need I would rather purchase for myself).

I love Christmas! Every Christmas Eve I go to my grandparents. My maternal and paternal grandparents live in the same town so I can go back and forth between the two houses and visit different groups of people. Mom's parents' house is usually quiet and relaxing (unless Pop is playing cards) and it's a good place to watch some Christmas specials, play DS, or maybe join in a game of Gin.

My Dad's mom lives with my aunt and this house is the total opposite. It's always packed with people, mostly aunts, uncles, and cousins. There is, at all times, food and snacks and drinks available. As soon as some candy or something gets low, they refill it again. You can go to any room in the house and there will be a crowd of people there chatting about this or that. Many of my cousins have young children so there is always talks of toys and Santa Claus.

On Boxing Day night (the night after Christmas) is when my Dad's family has a big party. It starts will supper around 5:30 or 6:00 (usually hot turkey snadwiches) and continues with drinks and good cheer. Eventually there is a sing-along and this ends with very special songs that are exclusive to the small town. My late grandfather used to go door to door when he was alive and sing these two songs to everyone in town. Relatives that are not present for Christmas will call and listen to the songs over the phone.

After the songs, they bring down more food. Every kind of hors d'oeuvres, and chips, and dip, and crab legs, and everything I can't remember is served. We eat and eat and drink and drink until I eventually get tired and walk to my other grandparents' house and go to sleep.

But this Christmas will suck because I'm in Korea.

Christmas has always been important to my family, even (or especially) when we had basically no money. My mom always tried her hardest to make Christmas special even when my dad was sick, and near death on several occasions.

I thank her every year on Christmas morning for that, and every year on my birthday for trying as hard as she did when my brother and I were young.

My sister and I have gotten to the point where my parents no longer feel compelled to get a bunch of gifts, which is awesome. Just a few things, always a stocking full of little trinkets and socks.

    My mother LOVES giving socks.

She also still feels the need to hide gifts, even though neither my sister nor I live at home. It's even better because she'll hide the gifts and then forgot where she put them. At least once on christmas morning she'll start looking around wondering where something is and then have to go looking for it after all the presents are opened. She's been doing this for years and one May I received X-Wing for the computer all wrapped up nice and neat for christmas.

    Thanks, mom!
