Ok, the AP system is perhaps a bit daunting at first, but people will happily help you out with it. Other than that, the game was pretty straightforward I thought.

Granted, combat isn't as simple as "target mob X and spam abilities till it dies" but I would call that a feature not a flaw.

What is so ugly about it anyways? I think the art conveys the setting really well. I also appreciate that resource nodes actually look like they belong in the world rather than standing out like a sore thumb.

My friend plays this on max everything and it looks fine, maybe not the best around but good enough. I kinda like the art style really.

edit: the shadows are great too, relating with the direction of the sun.

I played it on max everything it doesn't look good at all. I realize post apocalyptic means shit is going to be destroyed, but it doesn't give it an excuse to be butt ugly.

Don't get me wrong. Had this game come out at around the time I was hopelessly addicted to Dark Age of Camelot (when it was released) I would have said this game was the shit. It's got such an old school MMO feel to it.

The problem is there's a lot better MMOs to play out there, and much better ways of spending $15 a month from what I got from my time with the game.

The environment looks nice, but the character models and animation are pretty fugly and disjointed. My beard looks like it was done in the paint tool.

I mean, I played EQmac for like sixth months last year.

The Escapist had some keys, no idea if any are left or not. Otherwise you would need a buddy key from someone who bought the boxed version (digital copies don't get any keys to share).

    Color me excited.

I'm really hoping they eventually implement some kind of constructible resource harvester. Like an ore extractor you could drop in a mine area, or a lumber mill in a wooded area. They'd require a lot of materials but be reusable.

I might just want this game to be another one too much though

    Woo!

I was wondering when they were gonna add gambling to the game. Buncha people sitting in a tavern playing cards. Nice.

Currently working on grinding my Traveler faction up, instead of sticking with Enforcers.

I should note that gambling will only be available in Traveler-friendly towns (CHOTA, Techs and obviously Traveler). Neutral towns will also have it.

I decided to re-roll after getting up to 5 on a Vista-ish Rifle guy. I decided I'd rather go melee, crafting weaponry seems more appealing to me now than ballistics after making a couple of marginally better crossbows with a ton of components. Running out of ammo and waiting 10 minutes for more to craft up is also annoying, I guess I should be planning ahead. But sometimes I forget and that's a costly mistake.

So yeah, possible CHOTA melee dude here we go. I think it takes at least one "failed" character to truly get this game. I'm sure I could have still made something decent out of my level 5 ranged guy but now I know more about the game as a whole than the tutorial showed me, and what I want my character to be.

Yeah, the ammo thing is a pain in the lower levels. But as you progress you start to make bigger batches of ammo at a time so its less time-costly.

I sort of regret not making a melee char but its just too fun taking things down from 70 metres away.

It still makes me giggle when I see "sniper" weapons with max ranges of 70m. I am army, when we go to qualify with our rifles, 70m is right between the closest and second closest targets we shoot at. It is pretty easy to hit shit at that distance with just iron sights, a scope wouldn't help much (if at all). I understand it's for gameplay reasons and all that, I just can't help but find it funny. And Fallen Earth is by no means the first MMO to be like that.

I think after my rifle/crafter character takes off some, I may build a more group oriented character focused on mutations and leader skills. Probably tack that on to armor use, dodge and pistols (since my main will be doing ballistics anyways, guess I could just trade for melee weapons too if I wanted to go that route).

So my friends have been talking a lot about how this game is 'hideous' and 'unplayable' and all of my research makes me feel like they're full of shit.

I know there aren't any 'classes' in the traditional sense, but is there a healing/support tree? I'd like to buy this around Christmas, but I'm curious about the graphics and system.

There are lots of ways to make your character a support class.

Group Tactics, First Aid, Mutations, Faction Mutations etc. You just gotta put points into the stats which affect your support abilities.

You can use trade skills like Science, Medicine and others to make little items that buff/resurrect and so forth.

First Aid and Group Tactics are the main skills for group play. You can also focus on Medicine, Cooking and this Monday Construction to provide even MORE buffs for the group.

So I foolishly decided to say fuck you to Enforcers, and defecting to Traveler status. Which in turn means I had to run around enemy towns, avoiding guards and picking up faction quests (fun). And then grind faction mobs to get to neutral status (not so fun).

But hooray, now working up to the third rank of Travelers. Sorry Sonork, I guess I'll have to shoot you in the back if we enter a pvp zone.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some people find the graphics to be on the ugly side, I think they are fine. I've seen better, but they are by no means bad IMO. As I've said before, I really like how resource nodes actually look like something that belongs in the game world, makes them a bit easy to miss sometimes, but that is ok.

The game is certainly playable, not even sure how you could say it's not.

It just clutters up the thread, I think there are enough of us here who would agree that it's not a waste of money. Not to you perhaps, but that doesn't add to this thread now does it? I hate WoW, I hate Eve, and there's a number of other popular threads here for games I think are a "waste of money", yet I do not go to them and preach those on the fence of whether to join those games or not how much I think those games suck.

And that has been your sole contribution to both threads, telling everyone how much you think the game sucks (and not being too specific about it either). That really doesn't add to the conversation now does it?

Neither does acting like a child because someone disagrees with your view on a game. And hey with all my negative feelings maybe it'll be a blessing in disguise for the guy.

I came in the thread and heard great things about the game, went in expecting an amazing game. I was shot down very quickly by everything in the game and disliked just about everything about it. If he goes in expecting something small maybe he'll actually be able to enjoy it.

I'm having a lot better luck with my Melee Armor/Weapons crafter guy. There are some really interesting weaponry recipe lines, like Sports Gear which later becomes Blood Sports and then...22nd Century Gladiator! Right now I'm running around with a 2h sword I made, kills stuff pretty good. Started in North Burb and did every quest there, so I got a nice amount of Melee abilities right off the bat. Building up my armor skill too when possible, and may even take up Science for dyes and other gadgets.

I can't wait till tomorrows update, I can throw up a camp and just sit there! Maybe some other travelers will stop by for a brief reprieve from the insanity of the wastelands, and warm their boots by the fire...

By god, I think this is the closest there will ever be to pre-NGE Galaxies. That is, until they build a time machine which will allow me to go back to launch. Scratch that, a few months after when they got their shit in gear and added vehicles. I have to buy it just for that, despite any of its flaws. So much to do. So glad it's winter break!

I think dyes are pretty low skill anyways, but if you want to save time and AP, I can make'em and I am heading down the science tree anyways (harder since it doesn't cheat like Nature and act as a harvest and crafting skill at the same time, least not at low levels).

So the new patch is pretty cool.

Went into the casino with 80b chips, lost about 60 of said chips. Was about to say fuck it, then bet the highest amount on a slot machine and won 80b! Up to 1 red now. I'm going to try and avoid taverns as much as possible but I don't think it'll be easy.

Haven't had a chance to learn construction, but it looks fun - was looking at the trade skill on a friend's computer.

Also the new vehicle suspension sound effects; not so sure about it. I mean it helps with the monotonous sound of the engine whirring away but makes the bike sound like its about to fall apart.

Are my system specs going to be able to run this reasonably well?

And I'd prefer to get it from Steam, is that ok or should I get the retail box for patches etc?
