I was actually just thinking about what X11 web colors would be good to use under both the default new-forum scheme and the Stylish old-forum schemes, and came up with the following list of 15. Some are more readable than others on each of the schemes, but overall, they might make for a good rule of thumb?

    red
    brown
    chocolate
    darkorange
    goldenrod
    olive
    limegreen
    forestgreen
    darkcyan
    darkturquoise
    dodgerblue
    mediumorchid
    deeppink
    crimson

I think it went pretty well, especially since it was all of our first time playing the game. I found it a lot of fun but definitely demanding of teamwork and planning on the marines part - and sometimes that's not even enough.

Looking back through some old threads for useful stuff, and this post stood out to me, as a good way to handle Diplomacy (where so much of the action happens outside the thread). This method would let a player take over a country mid-game and still have access to all the conversations that went on earlier. Plus, the host actually gets to see what is happening.
Basically, I assigned a Gmail account to each player - England.padip@gmail.com for Britain, France.padip@gmail.com for France and so on. Each player could then use the accounts to communicate with each other, make deals and so forth. The accounts were set up so that all messages were forwarded to the judge's account, so that I could watch what was going on. Before the end of each turn, the players submitted their moves to me at the judge account.
The map was a Photoshop file, with an image of the board lifted from Wikimedia on one layer and the markers, etc on a layer above. When I updated the map, I just cut and paste the markers to move them around. There are programs like Realpolitik available for download that can do the same thing, but they produce rather ugly maps so I did it by hand instead.

Are we going to do a sticky of these for all the pbp RPG threads too, or is that overly ambitious?

That's definitely overly ambitious for me; however, if someone wants to do it, I imagine it would be well-received. That's a much bigger project than this was, though.

It would probably be too depressing due to the numbers of games that ended prematurely.

Well, if any game is currently recruiting, I put the status in orange. Generally, though, games don't stay recruiting for very long; I do make a post in this thread anytime I spot a new game, so if you're subscribed you'll hear about it when I do.
