Modern Warfare 2: RAMIREZ! DO EVERYTHING

I've carried 3 or 4 different ACOGs in theater, and feel really dumb for not noticing that those last few figures were a Bible verse even after reading off the serial number daily. Now that it's been pointed out to me, it's so obvious.
It has been posted, but it doesn't hurt to see good news again. According to Bowling's Twitter (I fucking hate it as a method of updates for this game, as I've already made clear) the fix is currently being tested.
How about they fix the fucking matchmaking for the 360? We still don't have that part of the updates.
Like say, firing through one enemy, and hitting the guy behind him as well.
Best thing that happened ever
EXTREME CRUELTY!
Love that one.
Hey man, it happens to all of us every now and then. Well, maybe not all of us. But I think I went like 5-20 not that long ago...but that's the exception, not the rule.
As a rule I run lackluster +/- 2 matches (8-10, 12-10, 9-8, whatever) in TDM. Pretty meh.
I saw a dude go like 1-27 in TDM yesterday, though. Seriously man, you didn't quit eventually? He wasn't at his first Prestige yet, but he was up at like level 60+. You'd think he'd have shaken off some of the suck by then.
Oh, and good news on the patch.
I'm always willing to give every company who makes a rad-ass runaway hit one "no questions asked" day-one purchase of their next game. I'm definitely not going to buy MW3 until they can actually sell me on the game again.
edit: to answer the question. . .
quality wise, that peak was called "Call of Duty 4"
but considering how they made a hundred billion dollars or something on this one, it'll probably peter out at like MW4 when they release Call of Duty: 1887, where the 1887s will be really shitty because those akimbo bow and arrow and muzzle loaded muskets will be overpowered.
Rant follows. If you don't want to read it, just don't click.
This. CoD4 was pretty much perfect. Or as perfect as I can reasonably expect a game to be. MW2 is....I'm almost willing to say terrible. If it wasn't as popular as it is (including with a lot of my friends), I probably wouldn't bother playing it. The only reason it's any good at all is because of what they kept from CoD4...nearly everything they added from CoD4 was halfassed or not thought through worth a damn.
Example: Killstreak rewards. Great idea, and overall it works, until you get to the Tactical Nuke. Which should never have been active in any gametype, and certainly not in FFA (if you're 25-0, you're probably winning, so all the Nuke does is beg for boosting).
Example: Thermal sights. Great idea. Except obviously nobody played them on Derail, or they did and they said fuck it we'll do it anyway.
Example: Akimbo. Great on handguns, pretty much retarded on everything else. Any playtesting would show this.
Example: Perks. Leveling up perks? Great idea. Most of the new (and kept) perks? Pretty cool, in theory. Unfortunately they're terribly balanced, and in most cases it's obvious they went with the "throw shit at wall, see what sticks" design philosophy.
In pretty much every case where they tried to add, all they did was fuck up what worked with CoD4. They'd have been better off adding maybe 3-4 killstreaks, a perk or two, switching up the guns/player models/maps, and calling it a day. It would have been a badass game.
Instead they tried to go over the top with everything, balanced nothing, and turned what was a fantastic game into a retarded pile of what-the-fuck that's just good enough to play because fuck it everybody else I know is too. They needed a huge day-one playerbase, because if this game wasn't part of an established franchise it would have died a terrible death.
So far about the only actual straight-up improvement I've noticed was the Headquarters gametype. Neutral time after the cap point is discovered keeps somebody from locking it down right after spawning (happened a lot in CoD4) and Danger Close makes the "lock down the building" strategy a losing proposition. Of course, a lot of the other imbalances make it suck ass anyway, but the changes to the gametype itself were pretty much (as far as I can tell) 100% good.
I just figured I'd spoiler it, so that only those interested in a bitch session have to see that wall-o-text.
EDIT: And I'd agree that CoD4 was the peak, and that MW2 is the game after the peak where everybody realized CoD4 was the peak, and it's probably gonna fall off a cliff if they aren't very, very careful.
PLAYTESTING
Retarded as in "terrible?" Or OP? Because I rather enjoy akimbo on Vectors.. that with Rapid Fire is hilarious on the tighter maps (Terminal, Highrise, etc).
Took the words right out of my mouth. MW2 is a prime example of a dev-team catering to the lowest common denominator. They should have refined the multiplayer experience, but they decided to go with the "Tony Hawk Pro Skater" line of development and throw as much stuff in as possible.
This took two years to develop.
Well, it's aesthetically retarded on a majority of non-handgun weapons (UMP45, shotguns, a bunch of others) and overpowered on others (G18, maybe some others).
Overall it's just not a great idea, for various reasons (depending on the gun). While I'll agree it can be fun from time to time, the game would probably be a better game if it didn't exist at all. Though yeah it might have also been better if it had been offered on less weapons with more care taken to test, balance, and model it.
Basically I think that akimbos can be pulled off but they just need some balancing.
Dual weapons are the choice of all military badass operators, didn't you know? Especially lever action shotguns.
I just flipped the Quake 3/Halo/Sim all the way to Quake 3.
Just grab the most powerful shit and just run around and fuck shit up. If someone happens to get upset and call you a camper or whatever, fuck em.
Well, my problem isn't with witches and dog rapists and what not. You're using the tools IW gave you, trying to win the game, more power to you I suppose. My problem is with IW, because they gave them those tools and created a game that kinda blows.
I mean, sure I could run a witch build and reap the kills as well (I've done it, it's not hard). But I don't find that game fun, so if it came down to a choice between rolling dog-rapist or witch style or just selling the damn thing, I'd sell it. Go play some Left 4 Dead 2, or something.
Luckily it's not quite that bad (yet), and unfortunately my friends still like MW2 despite its faults (but they all bitch about them, so it's not like it's just me).
And no, I don't bitch about campers. At least not any further than "man, fuck that guy." Which I say to a lot of guys that kill me, it's just the nature of the beast. If they didn't want people sniping, there wouldn't be sniper rifles in the game. And there's no such thing as camping on Domination. You're defending a point. That's the nature of the game. I'd almost want to go grab that one old PA comic about whether or not they should bother defending the intel (and instead just send it a postcard asking how it's doing).
Now, I do bitch when a "camper" gets a Tactical Nuke because he managed to pull off a 25-kill-streak while holding down the one point a scrub team was managing to hold, thus winning the game despite the fact that they were getting rick-rolled. That shit is absurd, and shouldn't happen. But the problem isn't with the fact he was "camping." It's with the fact that Infinity Ward thought the Tactical Nuke was a good idea.
Nor do I bitch about tubers. I bitch when somebody uses OMA for unlimited-tube-action (or even Scavenger, really)...but not about the tuber, but rather again because IW didn't put any thought into what the fuck they were doing.
Does that makes sense?
EDIT: And again, for all the stupid bullshit unbalanced crap I obviously have the choice to use it myself...but I'd rather just sell the game if it came to that. Because that's not a fun game to me. Winning for winning's sake is no good at all, and not worth my time or money. I can win 100% of the time at masturbation, and it's free. And if IW actually intended half this shit to happen? Man, then they're profoundly stupid.
They basically said fuck to all of the best software design practices of the last 10 years, and went back to a bunch of shitty if-then statements in the code to determine what damage is done with what guns and what attachments. This leads to this kind of glitchy bullshit that takes TWO PATCHES to fix, instead of just a single change one place in the code. Stuff like holographic sights adding +5 damage proves this is the case.
Its this kind of shit that gives my profession a bad name, and makes it seem like 'glitches' like this are acceptable. Simple design practices and patterns could have been used to make all of this shit fixable in patch one, not after 5 of them.
I know it's a bit of a rant, but come on! You guys couldn't hire one non-420 erryday fuckstick, and shelled out the cash for one guy who went to school for CS? Look at Valve's games. They're polished as fuck, and when you look at the modding code for it, it shows why. They give a fuck about their software. These guys don't.
I still enjoy playing the game, but with all the crap underneath it, it just reminds me of being at work and cleaning up other people's messes.
EDIT:
The funny part about all of this is that not only would the end user experience have been better, but it would have decreased their development time by a staggering amount. It would have SAVED THEM MONEY to program better, and they could have put more of their development cash monies into adding new game modes and cooler features, instead of just copy-pasting broken code.

It really speaks to how lazy they must have been. Honestly the IW tech engine is essentially a heavily modified quake engine, and the MW2 engine is pretty much the same from CoD4.
Did it really take them two years to develop what is essentially a mod?
this makes no sense. i agree with all your points about mw2 having serious balance/logic issues. but they can't repackage cod4 with just more killstreaks, maps, etc. that would be even more of a cod4.5 that mw2 basically is
the weird thing about mw2 is that with all it's flaws and bs in gameplay, it's still a net fun game to play. loading it up, running around and killing mans is pretty fun as a timesink if you average above a 1:1 k/d. yes, there's horrible lag, respawn issues, knife priority, etc, but the game manages a rare balance of extremely frustrating and extremely hard to put down for me
i (obviously) don't know what the best balance of mw2 should had. stuff like killstreak loadouts and secondary weapons that don't suck make the game a lot better than mw1. in the DLC, it would be nice to have a perk that lets you use two secondary weapons only
mw2 is like the arcade version of cod4 for stoners and XTREME gamers
Really, I played through half the campaign of CoD4, and never touched the multi, but from that story, plus MW2's Single Player, and Spec Ops, I thought IW was serious business, which I thought was pretty cool. Like, "Hey, this is a hardcore shooter, man." Then I played online and saw "Bling" weapons, akimbo shotguns, and "Joint Ops/Blunt Trauma/Pineapple Express/420 Erryday" as unlockable titles and I was... well, I was thrown for a loop, if nothing else.
EDIT: Even as a SRS BSNS game (which it's not) I do like the flavor that Perks add.

Look at what the Natural Selection team put together. In 2 years, one full time programmer and a mapper put together an entire engine, and they're gearing up for a AAA release. That's what a professional can accomplish.
I like the quote on the Humiliation Challenges under the barracks:
"Amateurs practice until they get it right. Professionals practice until they can't get it wrong."
IW is a bunch of amateurs.
Yet I've never seen anyone else do it. I can't recall a single time I've been blown up while capturing a point.
this is exactly my experience. its the best damn thing, and no one else seems to ever use it.
edit: i also roll with sitrep these days though, so on the rare occasion that someone has set up c4 or a claymore or whatever i just shoot it and do my thing.
AND SHE WOULDN'T GIVE IT TO ME
I've come across it a few times, but it is rare, with grenades and throwing knives being the most common equipment people use.
And even then my Blast Shield negated their attempts.
haha i do this too. i get really excited when i see that glowing red nearby.
