You're talking about PvP, right? Ground PvP is best won by getting two weapons with high-damage secondaries (split beam rifles, sniper rifles), then switching between them for consecutive firings. It's enough to two-shot anybody, so other ground abilities are rather secondary.

Yes ground pvp. And yes, I already use the "Switch between split beam and the sniper rifle" tactic. But there a little thing I have called weapons malfunction that makes those 2 big weapons mean jack for one person. And from my exp, after the late open beta ground pvp "fixes" they put in, the 2-shotting is gone unless is from expose/exploit. Anyone with decent sheilds can last the secondary fire of each. What gets me most of the time now, aside from the expose/exploiting, are all the fucking holds. I wish the "anti-hold" character traits had additions of "descreases the amount of time you are held" to go along with +resistances.

I eventually just CTL+ALT+DEL'd out of the game after sitting on a load screen for like 10 minutes.

Man. I really enjoy this game when it works. But I think this head-start weekend has proven beyond any doubt that the game is simply not ready for launch.

I've submitted about 5 or 6 bug reports. I'm guessing I've had a fairly average experience so far. Assuming everyone reports as many (or more) than me, Cryptic is probably overwhelmed right now with issues.

bah it was going so well since the last downtime, and all of a sudden, broken again :(

ironically, both times the server has gone down have been while I was rearranging my tribbles. wouldn't it be amusing if my tribbles were breaking the server.

Other than a bit of lag rubber banding, and one of the Klingon Fleet actions being bugged, I dont think I've seen any in-game issues.

Server crashes would be out of game issues for sure though.

Also, can we still add a poll to this thread? I'm curious what career path people are picking.

You know, the loading screen blurbs say that Data was placed in command of the Enterprise after Picard left Starfleet, but what ever happened to Riker?

    Edit: ahh, USS Titan

    Reconnaissance Science vessel, Luna class.

Yup he showed up in the Star Trek: Countdown comics as Captain of the Enterprise which was leading up to the new Star Trek film that came out the other year, it tied things together like the destruction of Romulus after Spock/Picard tried to stop it, Nero going nuts, Geordi having created the Jellyfish(the ship Spock used) and other stuff like that.

It also had a lot of people thinking Worf got killed in one issue since he kind of got impaled in the gut aboard Nero's vessel.

The game seems to mix and match different bits of the novels/comics for it's continuity. They mention the Starfleet Corps of Engineers (specifically USS da Vinci), those Countdown comics, the Titan, etc.

There was a website which had a detailed list of all the things it references, but I can't find it anywhere now.

EDIT: Eheh. Thought it would've been Memory Alpha or Beta, but it turns out TVTropes was it (under Sure Why Not).

Oh trust me they are there. Just not to glaring on the Fed side. Over here in Qu'nos, we have a few:

Klingon PVP vendors in Ganalda dont work.
When joining a PvP queue, the game MUST kick us from other queues! Since we can't join a game while in another game, this is causing matches to start short handed or even empty
Klingon 'officer candidates' that show up via those periodic pop-up quests are always "alien engineers". I understand that on the Fed side it's random, but we ONLY get alien engineers.
PvP is rewarding damage but not support.
Still have the "waiting period" at the end of the PvP matches.

    And I'm an Eng, btw.

Hey folks was wondering if you bought the game do you need to use a credit card or prepaid card to play the 30 day trial that you get or can you go on and play the free 30 days and then add to it after.

As with every MMO in existence that I have personally played, you -must- put in some form of payment first. Those able to use a credit card are lucky since they can usually just cancel if they don't like it through the free month.

Yeah, so I figured I didn't want to make it to LTCO with my main until I at least tried the consitution class for a few levels, so I made two alts.

Here's my main: Captain Luke Charter of the USS Horizon. I picked engineering/cruisers because using turrets sounds fun on the ground, and I'm in love with Enterprise ships. :p
    screenshot_2010-01-30-23-58-40.jpg

    Here are my alts:

Captain Lydia Shran of the Escort vessel USS Banshee (heh):
    screenshot_2010-01-31-00-04-42.jpg

And for my science captain, it took me awhile to find what I wanted to do, but then I decided to make a sectoid. He still needs a bit of work, namely his height, but I'll do it later. Captain Grim'Sen of the USS Olympus:

One cool feature is that you can save the costumization of your characters, and reuse them with your BOs by loading the costume. As long as it's the same race/gender, they end up looking identical. So in any game I play I have all three on the bridge.

You were having WAAAAY too much fun with the boobie-slider on Lydia.

And yes, the servers are down again. I was in the middle of a NICE ground fight versus klingons. I drew too much aggro, and I was losing. It was so much fun I forgot to play ME2 today.

While I respect that they're wanting to get the game ready for the retail release, they really should have focused on this sort of crap in beta rather then being busy completely retooling the game about a week from release.

Agreed. The headstart is being judge 1000x harsher than beta, since people now have the notion that since these characters aren't getting wiped, THIS IS LIVE. And rightfully so.
