    not related, but BO related

this is inadvertently awesome, and i dont think that Boehner meant to come across as such a whiner. I know its just going to appeal to both side for different reasons, but it is nice to hear 2nd hand obama smackdown every now and again.

That's because the attack was originally blamed on Muslims, so it was too late by the time they found out it was a white guy.

That was before the public realized some brown people wanted to kill us, and the government realized "terrorist" was becoming a fantastic buzzword.

    Both points well taken.

Here's how I imagine the argument going:

Person A: You're not calling him a terrorist because he's not a Muslim, admit it!
Person B: You types of people always bring race into the discussion for no reason!
A: Do you even know what terrorism actually means?
B: Sure he's technically a terrorist but he's not a real terrorist. He said he wanted to incite more violence, but c'mon, who's he kidding?
    A: That means he's a terrorist!
    B: Quit arguing semantics!
    A: Quit being a racist!

Both people declare victory and I turn off the TV and go lay down for a while.

Not terribly surprising though I doubt that chart is very accurate

It's... official numbers put on a bar graph.

Anyway, we had an argument about this chart being awesome/not being awesome a few pages back.

Visual evidence of how it's not really that awesome:

    6a00d83451c45669e20120a8b1c585970b-500wi

This is made from the exact same data.

Yet more proof that numbers can be made to say anything and that graphs without context suck.

That graph doesn't look bad if you actually know what you're looking at. The official graph is basically just showing the slope of the line of this graph.

This one looks good to me too - things were getting REALLY SHITTY under Bush, and then under Obama jobs have still been lost but the rate of job loss is going down.

Both graphs indicate positive things if you pay attention to them. But they aren't made for people that pay attention, they are made for people who glance at the title and look at the blue and red bars.

Strangely, White Nationalist groups tend to hold many of the same views on the supposed Jewish conspiracies and American foreign policy as Muslim terrorist groups.

In White Nationalist circles, 9/11 was secretly a Mossad plot and our foreign policy in the Middle East is being run by Jewish puppet-masters to benefit Israel.

McVeigh and Nichols were most likely acting alone, but they were, in many ways, ideological soulmates with Al-Qaeda.

This is because fundamentalist Christianity and Islamic extremism are, aside from a few trappings, essentially identical.

They both hate Western progressivism, they both feel that women shouldn't have equal standing with men, they both hate homosexuals, they both disagree with freedom of religion and want heavily theocratic elements in their governments, and at the extreme ends they resort to violence to kill the people who are different from them.

I mean, really, the only difference is that the fictitious dude leading the Christians is a white dude with a beard who performed miracles as opposed to a brown dude with a beard who performed miracles.

The White Nationalist movement's religious views are.. eclectic, to say the least. There is a Christian Fundamentalist strain, but there are also Neo-Pagans that dislike Christianity because it is too Jewish. Are there Christian Fundamentalists who are also White Nationalists? Sure, but the latter movement did not grow out of the former.

I'm not aware of any religious motivation for the OKC bombing. McVeigh and extermists of his ilk are coming from the "New World Order" and black helicopter fever swamps.

This probably doesn't apply to McVeigh, but a lot of them believe the NWO is a Satanic/Jewish/Masonic (with a bunch of ecliptic trees connecting these three) conspiracy, which feeds both into the Christian/Islamic fundamentalist and White Nationalist mindsets.

We'd need a Constitutional Amendment for that, which wouldn't fly. Red States aren't going to agree to giving the Dems 2 new Senators.

My proposal is that since we don't receive representation, we should not have to pay Federal taxes (sort of like Puerto Rico).

DC is not a state for very good reasons. The only reason to push that is if you're a partisan leftist, or hate VA and MD.

DC is a fucking cancer of a city that exists only to suck money out of it's neighbors. It's run by jackasses as well. It should have it's fucking power reduced, since it fucks it's neighbors via the ton of power of all the politicians who now live there.

You're confusing the Federal government with DC government. DC government is actually pretty decently run, all things considered. The last couple of mayors have been pretty good, and I say that as a Republican.

As to sucking its neighbors dry, we're in the unique situation of having to provide infrastructure for everyone from VA and MD who works here, but without the ability to pass any sort of commuter tax.

no federal $$$ either for stuff that doesnt directly involve federal resources, and that would sound fair to me.

Would also make dc a much more attractive place to live. There would have to be an appropriate local tax hike to make up for the loss of fed $$$, but I would be able to say in good conscience that I no longer contribute to the military industrial complex (and other failed/disgusting federal programs) in the USA via federal taxes.
