Wayne Rooney is a badass. Yes, I know... this is knowledge that is as common as 2 + 2 = 4. But let's take a look at how badass he is anyways.
Wayne Rooney's Brilliant Volley

BOOKS
Football is a beautiful game, and anything with such beauty deserves to have literature written about it. Luckily for us, there is. There are many books that one can read about football; however, here are a few that I highly recommend:

1. Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby
FeverPitch.jpg

Before it was adapted into a horrible film about baseball, it was adapted into an excellent film about football. But before it was adapted into a film about football, it was an internationally bestselling memoir. Nick Hornby's Fever Pitch is about Hornby's personal "love affair" with Arsenal FC. Keep in mind this was before Arsene Wenger's time as manager; before Arsenal was in the "big four" and playing beautiful one-touch football. Any football fan should read this book.

2. The Ball is Round by David Goldblatt
TheBallisRound.jpg

Yes, it says "A Global History of Soccer" in the subtitle. This is because it is the American version. This book is a "Global History of Football" everywhere else in the world, so don't worry... it's credible. Although I have personally just started reading it, I find it a very interesting read and have trouble putting it down sometimes, which is quite a feat for a history book (even if it IS about football).

3. How Soccer Explains the World: An Unlikely Theory of Globalization by Franklin Foer
HowSoccerExplainstheWorld.jpg

This is a book that examines the importance of football in the cultures of many countries in the world. I wish I could say more on the book, but I admittedly never finished it before being distracted by Fever Pitch and The Ball is Round.

4. Among the Thugs by Bill Buford
41XF4WNFA1L_SL500_.jpg

How could a football thread be created without the mention of good ol' hooliganism? This book is about an American journalist who decides that he wants to see what football hooliganism is all about. Bill Buford decides to follow Manchester United, and finds a way into the hooliganism scene.

5. Bloody Confused by Chuck Culpepper
BloodyConfused.jpg
Recommended by projectmayhem, oldmanken, and Arikado.

American goes to England, wants to check out "soccer," doesn't understand anything about the game. Hilarity ensues.

6. The Miracle of Castel di Sangro by Joe McGinniss
TheMiracleofCasteldiSangro.jpg
Recommended by Diarmund and oldmanken.

7. Seeing Red by former referee Graham Poll
SeeingRed.jpg
Recommended by Arikado.

8. The Damned United by David Peace
TheDamnedUnited.jpg
Recommended by Ponge.

FILMS
1. Kicking It
KickingIt.jpg

This is a film that I randomly stumbled upon while looking through Netflix's library. Released in 2008, Kicking It is a documentary about the Homeless World Cup. Yes, it is a documentary... that focuses on homeless people playing football. What more can you ask for?

Now that's funny.

2009/2010 EPL Table Predictions!

PM/Post your epl table predictions before 9/5 (this saturday). Any tables added after 9/5 will have some sort of point reduction to be determined later. All tables will be added to the OP. At the end of the season winner will be selected based on a point system.

RULES:
5 points for getting #1
3 points for getting #2
2 points for getting #3 and #4
1 point for #5-#16
2 points for #17-#20

At the season break everyone will be able to make 1 swap. For example lets say you have the top four ranked as so:
1. Man U
2. Arsenal
3. Chelsea
4. Liverpool
If at the season break you think Liverpool will actually be challenging for 2nd, you are allowed to swap Liverpool and Arsenal around.
At 9/5 12:01am Central US time, tables will be locked.

The winner will get a prize. What it is? No idea, but it will be something I have lying around. However if you live outside of the US, it will most likely be some sort of online gift card.

If you have already posted a table prediction, repost it to be added.

For instance, the reaction to this injury was reminiscent of the injury that ended Joe Thiesmann's career in the NFL Or if you prefer knees there's McGahee in college

They also have only a handful of genuinely good players. Should be fun to watch

Unofficial Football World Championships. A mythical traveling title belt dating back to the first international soccer game. You take the belt by beating the current title-holder by whatever means.

Currently the Netherlands hold the belt; they've held it pillar-to-post through 2009.
