Looks a little too nurgle, but once the blacks are filled in it might work with the contrast.

I tried it for the simple reason that the GW painting tutorial I was following said too.

    lol. I'm sorry...

So, I've been working on this for a little while trying to get the green to something suitable for my eyes. I hate the GW Salamander tutorial so I'm trying something of my own. Keep in mind details where stuff should be painted black like between armour pieces have not been done yet. Thoughts on this green and the shading/highlights/layering or w/e you guys wanna call it? Thanks.

I think it's not... emeraldy enough? the tone is a bit too subdued for a Sally, which are a very vibrant green.

I highly recommend snot green for salamanders. and devlan mud for shading.

Not understanding why anyone would even attempt to paint red or yellow on a model without first applying a foundation color...

I guess the pigment density is pretty high in the P3 colors, because I was able to get Skorne Red to cover black perfectly after 2-3 coats. It's like an entire line of foundation paints.

Hmm. How would I paint salamanders?
Probably black undercoat, foundation green basecoat, a couple of layers of Snot green, a Green wash, repanel with Snot green then highlight up towards putrid green. Shame they don't make putrid green any more. I love that colour.

I got it. Snot green, or something equally as appealing is made with Dark Angels green and Goblin green. 50/50. Rawr. Thanks Asher!

    Glad to help!

Bare in mind I have never painted a Salamander myself and I'm working off my experience with other colours. Orkhide is a foundation right? I'd use that to start rather than the duller Knarloc.

The arms a bit thinner because they don't have as many coats as the rest of the model, but i do like this color a lot more.l

That is a perfectly acceptable Salamander colour. It looks pretty similar to the Club Salamanders.:^:

So, I re-examined the model that I painted, then glued using scab red. The one that I thought was very patchy and streaky. Once dried, it wasn't that bad at all for my 2nd model painted. Granted, it's just a base coat but if I could get all of my forces done that way, I could play a game at least. The scab red dries very dark over the black primer so it was pretty cool. I also watched like 10 tutorials online and all say that you have to thin all of the paints out of the bottle as they're simply too thick to get a good, even coat. Also, to use kitchen tiles as paint palets for mixing and blending paints =)

I'm super excited to get started on my army but man, i have over 40 models to paint and 2 troop transports on top of that.

Not seeing it man. Maybe your ad/image blocking software is stopping the backgrounds from loading?
I mean, yeah; black text/red links, but the background is supposed to be a sort of off-white/cream.

    PAINTING CHALLENGE!

The next wave of the painting challenge starts today, Elite or Fast Attack for 40k folks.

I'm going to do a squad of Sword Brethren Terminators (close combat). I'll post pictures of the primed level once I get back from the gym.

Get your selections in and get ready to paint guys! the first Challenge was a little bumpy, but went really well! Lets keep it up!

This challenge runs from 3/10 to 3/24.

OH FUCK YES! I'm going to paint my Terminator squad. RAWR! This challenge has done a great job to get people painting in general. I'm not really following the challenge, but it has lit a fire under my ass to get stuff done. Hell, I've never seen this thread move so fast either. Keep it up guys!

anon, you should make a set post that has who's doing what so we can see who accomplished their challenges etc. What do you think?

I'm trying to think of an elite I can paint. I'll probably do Arjac Rockfist since I just made a model for him...

That'll work Atlmann. I'll start with this one, since the last one was split between two threads.

This Friday I'll compile a list of all people who've thrown up pictures of their base level models, and make a list, and update as necessary.

It was the first model I ever painted and assembled. I stripped it, and I think broke the track guard in the process. I also forgot/didn't notice that it only had one, until after I primed it.
