After three days of turbulent meetings, the Texas Board of Education on Friday approved a social studies curriculum that will put a conservative stamp on history and economics textbooks, stressing the superiority of American capitalism, questioning the Founding Fathers’ commitment to a purely secular government and presenting Republican political philosophies in a more positive light.

The vote was 10 to 5 along party lines, with all the Republicans on the board voting for it.
“We are adding balance,” said Dr. Don McLeroy, the leader of the conservative faction on the board, after the vote. “History has already been skewed. Academia is skewed too far to the left.”
“I reject the notion by the left of a constitutional separation of church and state,” said David Bradley, a conservative from Beaumont who works in real estate. “I have $1,000 for the charity of your choice if you can find it in the Constitution.”
He also won approval for an amendment stressing that Germans and Italians as well as Japanese were interned in the United States during World War II, to counter the idea that the internment of Japanese was motivated by racism.

I'm surprised the moderates held out this long

I guess we could also talk about the state of education in America in general

Thankfully McLeroy is being outed by a more moderate board member once his term is up at the end of the year, but yes, this is an awful thing.

I'm not saying that anybody is wrong or right

but I've never seen that line of thinking result in any progress

I think the biggest problem education faces is politics muddying up the tachyons

I don't think that trying to paint the civil-rights movement in a negative light is the best way to preach the 'liberal bias of history books.'

I have an idea. Let us ship all the separatists in Quebec to texas, and then split Texas into a state and a new country scorned by both the US and Canada. and possibly Mexico.

West Texas is vastly different from East Texas

it's a very, very diverse state and I love every single inch of it

edit: Yeah man, the texas board of education sure does run every other state what

because large cities mean something about the quality of life and the intellectual value of a state
