But then half the time you don't actually say what you think but instead some twisted exaggerated version.
And the "this is what I think bye" thing is of course classically associated with irritating creationists.
So you have to understand why people find the behavior irritating.
i would like to point out that you are one of the few people who gets all up in arms about my engaging in hyperbole
to most people it is obvious when i am and am not
you get confused about it, which is understandable given the internet's lack of intonation or body language to tell how seriously someone means something
that said if you could extend me the benefit of the doubt sometimes that'd be super
like if i am saying something that seems extremely outrageous and monstrous to you perhaps instead of mounting on your steed and grabbing your lance you might stop and go "maybe he's just being overly aggressive in his point-making for effect"
maybe
anyway the thing with the creationists thing, i guess there certainly is the fact that they do that sort of thing, but then i don't do the "hi, bye!" thing in the same way so i don't know that it's equitable
i don't go into a thread and like, quote a bible passage, and then say "this is how it is!" and then leave
i give my opinion on a subject, and unless i feel like discussing that opinion or where i am coming from on it (rare, depending on the topic) i won't say anymore on the subject
i don't mind when other people do this, golly does it infuriate some people
it drives Qingu absolutely batshit crazy, he was on a god damn crusade to find out what religion i was just so he could find some way to attack it and then when he finally did he was so disappointed he whipped out a No True Scotsman and called it a day.

from the last thread, re: why I rather like Azumanga Daioh.
I think that show really sticks out in a sea of deceptively similar crap. It's a show about females of a certain age where all the baggage that goes with the term "schoolgirl" doesn't apply. It (deliberately, IMO) shows up and contrasts all the nasty shit that make up every other anime about high school girls. For example, at no point in the show do any of the characters end up moping about relationships or basing their lives around boys. Or it has a character who is much younger than all the others and doesn't sexualize her at all. Or the way it calls out the way most anime endorses (at least tacitly) the oggling of "schoolgirls" via the creepy teacher character.
And is funny. And the bits that come off a bit tired now where much less so when it was new and hadn't been imitated to death.
it was just sorta surprising that after all this time he had some hate-blue-balls going then he finds out and then is like "oh, pfft, that's not even a real religion anyway and you aren't really religious" and he used that as a way to dismiss everything i said that was angering him
it was sorta cute in its own way

Look, Lisa wants me to tell you to stop handing out her number. I think you owe us her an apology for sending lonely, interested young foreign men her way.
I started reading the comic when it came out, because Issue 1 looked interesting. "A geek tries to fight crime in a realistic way". Then by issue three you had a small girl bisecting people with a katana and that put me off. Although because of the movie I decided to finish it, and realise that the sword girl is much closer to the style of the story than issue one is. The story didn't go off in an unbelievable tangent, we were just misled by the first issue.

I'm hoping you actually called the number.

So I kinda wanted to see one of the sketches John Hamm was in for SNL but goddamn Hulu and NBC shut me out. Poo.

I was not expecting that. I should have but I wasn't.

you are a pretty strange dude all in all DUE
i just don't get you
but you seem like a pretty good guy
Is this Mike guy any good?
especially in the health care thread
he's one of the few people who insist on seeing the sunny side so much it approaches mental sickness
BOY AM I GLAD I DID NOT TELL [CHAT] THAT SUPER SECRET THING I DID NOT WANT MY GIRLFRIEND TO KNOW!
YES.
There are no true Scotsmen.

I'm hoping you actually called the number.
...
Are you actually asking that question?
Did you go back and edit it out like you said you would?
Because man that was a hell of a thing.
Also which girlfriend is this again? Is this the one that is a bit nutso or the other one?
She knows. Luckily, Dan Savage told her to indulge you.
except with religion
then it's the worst thing in the world
Thank you, and Pony too, for that advice.
