but this is according to my dad who claims his great grandfather came from Sicily

but then again a large concentration of people with my last name live in Sicily so this may not be wrong

Frankie's dad is quite adamant that Sicialians aren't really Italians

My favorite part of Inglorious Basterds is on the DVD. You can watch the entire movie that the german's made. It's like 10 minutes long with 4 minutes of credit. So it's 6 minutes of Americans running to their deaths and over acting. It's so ridiculous and hysterical.

My least favorite part of Inglorious Basterds was Mike Myers because all I saw and heard was Austin Powers.

When your great Grandfather might have come from somewhere, you should probably let it go and just accept you're an American.

    I know this.

Doesnt stop me from "living my heritage" and eating spaghetti for dinner monday tuesday wednesday etc repeat

That's after a hard day of roughing up the local shopkeeps for protection money and going for a drink at the speakeasy right

I saw Inglourious Basterds last night. Somehow I missed it at the cinema, possibly because an utterly scathing review I read destroyed my enthusiasm for it. I should know better, but hey.

Anyway. It was pretty good. Some great scenes and some brilliant performances, but a) Mike Myers was distractingly rubbish b) Brad Pitt's gurn face is just silly and c) it just felt like sort of a mismash of stuff rather than the epic WWII movie I wanted.

    Lots of fun, though.

    your criticisms are reasonable

but the framing of the movie and use of dialogue really made it work for me.

i love the way that tarantino reaches back for directorial technique

I admit to giggling aloud when the 'Hugo Stiglitz' title splashed on to the screen and then we got his potted history. Also, Pitt and Myers aside, he gets great performances out of his actors.

I had a lot of fun picking out the soundtrack steals he made while the missus ground her teeth at my enviable command of movie trivia.

"This one's a Morricone tune, honey. Oh, now this one's from Kelly's Heroes."

    She secretly loves it.

There is a lot of archeological evidence that early agriculturists were very malnourished because they depended entirely on their wheat and bread

common sentiment amongst italians. the relatively recent strong city states led to every region insisting that they are the 'real' italy.

the case against sicilians is generally that they are actually africans. cism and all that.

What's this gluten debate about? I didn't even know there are gluten-hating people who aren't coeliac disease sufferers.

Coeliac disease is a bitch. And somewhat hereditary too, as I've found out to my dismay. Fortunately there is gluten-free bread, pasta and beer.

Yeah, I've heard that before. When people went from being hunter-gatherers to farmers their overall health and welfare actually decreased since they had a less varied diet and were now toiling away and losing part of their crop to kings/warlords/priests/etc.

Interesting theory I read was that the divide between the new farmers and those who resisted "domestication" and remained as nomadic pastoralists was so stark that the latter barely regarded the former as human.
