Anyone else get the 'Top of the World' achievement yet? Because my god, the climb up the mountain (and the subsequent freefall) is fantastic.

    Goddammit

No other game on PS3 has ever given me hard freezes

I have now gotten two from Just Cause 2

Very discouraging. Luckily it autosaves all the time.

I also assasinated a miltary leader in that play session. Dude was being a pain with his machine gun and his lackeys with Far Cry Vision, but I grappled to a roof, bought a sniper rifle and wiped him out before stealing his machine gun and making my escape. Good times.

Also blew up a pipeline, leading Rico to quip something along the lines of "Take that, you pipeline jerk!"

I think I'm just going to wait for this to go on sale on Steam before I pick it up. Money is a wee bit tight, and I've got plenty of other games to play for the time being.

It's one of the snowy ones, when you're up there you can see which is biggest pretty easily. You might have to run around a bit to find the highest part of it or something.

There's a collectable faction item on the peak, so that's a good indication too.

I learned last night that trying to 100% a base while you are in the middle of a mission is a bad baaaad idea. Usually the game autosaves every % you get.... when you are in a mission... not so much. Biiig waste of time that was.

I just did the Reapers mission "Slipping and Sliding". I had to save come of Bolo's 'favorite in every way' Lts. I was like "NO WAI! THERE CAN ONLY B 1!!!!" But anyrate, it was interesting. I had to drive in snow...down a moutain. It was both horrific and hilarious.

I beat the game over the weekend. The final stuff was so fun.

Weirdly, the best mission in the game isn't is a side-mission! The Roaches have a mission
to go to the Hantu Island. EM weapons and super-geriatric Japanese soldiers
    It is amazing.

Also, I found a weird island in the far north, center of the northern edge. It is VERY small, like 5 car lengths across, 3 width. It has beach and snow on it, even though it is only a few feet high. Also, the northern edge of the island changes in elevation as you get closer. From a distance it is a gentle slope. As you get closer it 'morphs' and rises up to be a 20 foot tall, super steep wall of rock texture. It looks almost like a Nessie hump.

Weird spot. Some weird objects on the island that float and stuff.

Also, I'm sure that Just Cause 2 confirms my previously-held belief that, if a game has manually triggered explosives, they subsequently become my favorite weapon in the game.

    No kidding.

    1. Air drop over a military installation
    2. Open 'chute
    3. Drop C4 on red things
    4. Detonate

So what are Perfect Kill Combos, exactly?

They're not combos that you get without taking hits, I've figured that much out

That's what they are. You are taking damage, but not below the "regen threshold." You know that point on your health bar where if you get below, you won't autoheal past it? Yeah, as long as you're still above that point, you technically took no damage.

The achievement to kill 50 soldiers without losing health relates to that.. you can take a hit here and there as long as you don't drop too low.

    This.

I have noticed that sometimes it glitches. I have continued a perfect kill combo after I was knocked down to super low health, but it didn't last long.

I finally got the achievement for this last night...took more attempts than I'd like.

Easiest way to tell you've screwed the pooch is if you hear the rapid heart beat and screen gets a little red. This indicates Rico's entered the no-regen zone.

Managed to finish the 50 on the NW airport that features a Reaper mission. I cleared the airport except for the guys inside of the refinery-hole-explodey-whatchamacallit, then travelled to the nearby communications tower site (slightly southeast, I think). There I increased threat to top levels, then went back to the airport and killed guys as they spawned. Finally, I discovered a colonel's mansion down in the river valley, opposite a communications post. It has only one entrance point for the goons--a road, with plenty of time to throw grenades as the trucks come in. I used the sniper rifle throughout and my personal preference, dual-wielding pistols.

A highlight of the fun: trying to attract more guard attention at the airport, I threw several packages of C4 at a S14 Leopard as it readied for take-off. The plane caught fire in its last seconds on the ground, and made a lovely explosion 100 feet over the tarmac.

Even more fun: spawning a pimped-out Garret Traver Z at the base of the runway that ends at the cliff. It's about a 500 m drop, and she survived it without so much as a puff of smoke. So, I drove her up for a second run. Now the river owns a relic of that finest ride.

I picked this up last Tuesday, but only really sat down to play yesterday afternoon. Pretty soon 6 hours had passed, and I've only completed one Agency mission and one Ular Boys mission. The rest was just spent dicking around, which is awesome since the game requires that to progress. It's like they took the most fun part of any open-world game, realized why it is the most fun part, and said fuck it, let's reward people for having ADD and blowing the fuck out of everything.

My night culminated with finding the
Military Airport on the desert part of the island

I aimed my little one-person aircraft at some fuel tanks, surfed on the cockpit for a bit, then jumped off and free-fell as I watched the aircraft careen into the tanks, blowing shit right the fuck up. Then I parachuted down and grappled onto a fighter jet that was taking off, punched the pilot in the face, threw him out and commandeered it in mid-takeoff, swung around, bombed the SHIT out of the airport, parachuted out and down into a shaft housing a bio-weapon, sabotaged the weapon, grappled back up, and proceeded to tear a mounted gatling gun off its mount and fuck the rest of the base up.

I told my friend about this and his exact words were, "That sounds like pornography."

My only concern at the moment is that the two faction missions I did (one for the Ulars and one for the Reapers) were exactly the same, even in the intro cutscene for them (the mission itself, not the introduction to the factions themselves).

    They diversify later on, right?

Indeed they do, it's almost like a fakeout early on to think you'll just be doing the same thing.

Unless you mean faction stronghold missions. Because they're all the same.

Were they stronghold takeovers? Those are always the same, but the missions themselves are vastly different.

Ah, that makes sense. I didn't expect it to be nothing but stronghold takeovers, it just raised an eyebrow that the first mission I took for both factions was a copy + paste of the other.

Anyway, I think I've discovered a set-piece intended for further in the campaign during my ride in a chopper.
I was just mucking around and saw what I later discovered was the Mile High Club. A nightclub floating in the air, what the hell?

Panau is fast becoming one of my favourite sandbox worlds, after San Andreas.
