Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

Here's a link to the Vogons forum wherein they list a large number of CPU slowdown utilities.

You might give one of those a shot, the original game wasn't exactly designed to run on 3 GHz machines.

Generally running it through DOSBox with CPU set to auto is enough for me. Although I rotate the globe by clicking it not using the controls. I generally have to turn down the scroll speed in the combat options however.

Another fucking mission, another chance to get some guts in my teeth and show these greenblood cocksuckers the meaning of pain, and I'm stuck on a fucking transport en route to a new base?

You should hijack the transport and fly to the mission yourself. Or are you transported with special gear that prevent you from doing so?

While I'd hate to see the aftermath, I'd find it hilarious if Ranken got hit on the ramp of the transport and had to spend weeks in the hospital again. I'd be laughing right up till he ripped my throat out.

From the desk of the Director:

Hey guys, this next mission is going to be a sizeable one and I'm running low on pages, so I'm going to call this thread here. I'll start up another one in a day or so, but I also should mention I'm going on a two month holiday in a few weeks, so this after this next mission it might be quiet until around July. Think of it as an upcoming mid-season hiatus. I'll try not to go out on a cliffhanger.

I don't finish a thread that often (even if this one seems to have passed twice as quickly as the last), so I feel obligated to recognise everyone who helps make this Let's Play what it is. I don't think I can say much that I haven't already said, so forgive me if this feels repetitive.

I must re-iterate the deep debt I fell to the people who make this possible: My wife, for her continued patience; Moriveth and Janson, for providing my imagehosting (let me know if it's ever getting too big); all the Mods and Admins who keep these forums running smoothly, and most of all those readers and posters who continue to support not just this thread, but the whole community.

I do this because I get a kick out of it. I love this game, I love this community, and it never for an instant seemed to me that mixing the two could go wrong, and so far all of you have done nothing but prove me right. Thanks for all the support, the encouragement, the random back and forth banter that fills up this thread - It is my honest opinion that all I do is lay a foundation, and without the contributions of all those intervening posts that further the world and fiction I started this thread wouldn't be half as entertaining as it is.

My favourite posts in here are never the ones I make, but watching the conversation run away with itself, pages of discussion and random tangents, from swearing at the waitlist to speculative ideas as to what Rank does to pass the time in Bangkok. Be it in-character posting, colour commentary on the mayhem of alien invasion, or just spotting and cross referencing the myriad pop culture references that just happen to get worked in on a semi-regular basis, each and everyone of you helps elevate this work from good to great, and I do not for one second believe that its popularity is wholly based on my work alone. Whether you're a forum auteur or a lurker who only comes to this one thread, I cannot put into words how much I appreciate your continued patronage. I only hope I can continue to entertain you in proportion to how much you support me.

Anyway, there's a few pages left, so feel free to use them. We've now hit the moon twice; I'm beginning to wonder how many more times we need to that before we reach Mars...

    Thank you,

    Fishman,
    Director of Operations,
    X-Com UFO Defense

In general, I don't even like LPs, I have no interest in just watching someone else play a video game. Thanks to the consistent quality of the narration and the interactive nature of the whole thing, this is not only the single exception, but my favorite thread.

Enjoy your holiday, Director Fishman. You've earned it. And while you're away, pick me up something a bit more fun than this morphine, will you? It's getting boring in the infirmary.

Or maybe Rank could get me something from Bangkok.

Fish, going off to catch World Cup soccer in South Africa is such an over the top reason not to post. That's like top 2 or 3 get out of jail free reasons why taking a hiatus has to happen.

Of course you can't just be like any normal person and drop off your own interest in the subject matter for a few months, no, you have to travel the world and watch some of the best soccer players on the planet compete for the most coveted trophy on the planet.

    Basically what I'm saying is...

Dir. Fishman, thank you for all the time and effort, and enjoy your two month vacation. This is often the first thread I check for at the start of the day, and among those I look forward to updates on the most.

... please come back soon. I fear what Rank will start doing to the fresh meat in your absense. Hazing doesn't begin to describe the horror and debauchery that's rumoured to happen in the cafeteria after hours.

    Long time lurker here,

I get a mini-boner everytime whenever I see an update for this thread. I don't instant click to the new pages but savior it and delay reading it as long as I can. Kinda like crack addict scoring a rock and keeping it in his packet and smiling all day knowing he will get high later.

I played this game many times over past 10-12 years but not last couple of years. I don't need to because reading this thread is almost like playing it my self.

It make my work hours go real fast on the days I read your posts. And I want to thank you honestly for hard work you put into this.
